Krauthammer: Palin isn’t a serious candidate for president
Hot Air ^ | July 01, 2009 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Oh yes, he went there. We’ve been having a running debate on Twitter this afternoon about Sarahcuda and my contention that criticism of her is verboten among righty blog readers, HA’s included. This thread will be an interesting test case. Most of the heat Kraut takes will be for his contention that “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency.” Didn’t Captain Hopenchange do exactly that? Well, yes and no. Granted, the most memorable line he uttered in 18 months on the trail was “Yes we can,” but he’s done countless policy interviews, debated Hillary 20 times and McCain three, and held numerous press conferences. The TOTUS jokes are fun but The One’s perfectly capable of straying off script when need be. Is Palin? She seems at ease when discussing energy or life issues but the jury’s still out on most everything else, which is why Kraut feels comfortable asserting that she hasn’t (yet) brushed up on national policy the way we all thought she would.

When she said she needed to keep Willow away from Letterman, I knew, at that moment, it was all over. It was over for me, anyway.

Spends time?? How much time to release a statement? It’s the media and all the viewers that spent the time discussing the pervert. She did what ANY parent would/should do and in NO WAY do she belittle speaking out against the pervert attacking her child.

She made several statements regarding the Letterman thing. Sure she did what a parent could do and stand up against the ignorant comments that Letterman made, but I think sometimes as a national figure, if you take the bait and react to ever attack from second rate comics, it takes you off your target, which should be what is wrong with Washington DC right now.

By folksy, I am referring to ways of speaking that we don’t mind in a governor from Alaska but may turn some people off who are looking at her to be president. Do you think Obama would have done so well if he spoke like a gangsta rapper? Remember, to win, Sarah needs more than Freepers, who are more informed that the general public. She needs to convince Democrats that she offers a viable alternative to Obama. With a national media that is in love with the O, and will be for the next election cycle. And for the record, I thought Palin was the best thing that happened to the McCain ticket. But just like I think Palin needs to lose some of the “folksy” I would also say that Bobby Jindal won’t win a national campaign if he keeps talking like he’s speaking to fourth graders. I like him too, but what works locally doesn’t always play nationally.

Wrong. Kraut said she wouldn’t win the nomination. ...so if she does, he’ll eat his words. If she then goes on to win the Presidency, he’ll have some crow for dessert. Charles’ past Presidential predictions have proven to be as (un)reliable as those of Dick Morris, and his personal picks have left much to be desired. And to boot, he thought that Obama would most likely govern “from the center.” Piss poor record.

I think she reacted like a mother. She needs to act presidential, which means that she has to ignore some of the crazy comments people make, whether they be comics, or crazy world leaders.

“Why campaign now you asked? And why not?”

The State Run Media is attacking Palin every slow news day, and if Sarah Palin is actively campaigning, they will turn up the heat.

We do NOT want to take away focus from the Obama Presidency “success”....I think the Dems are starting to look for distractions......in a few more months, my Dog can run for president and beat him.

Presidential primaries are gueling and whet out unworthy candidates quickly. No one is given the nomination. Just ask Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson. If Palin jumps into the Presidential race, she’s going to have to win it on her own merits. If Palin is truly an unworthy candidate, then the anti-Palin folks have nothing to worry about. The primaries will take care of that.

If I were her, I would wait for 2016.

I agree, for many reasons I won't go into here. What disturbs me is the infighting being fomented on this forum and other blogs. We need to be focusing in 2010 elections just now.

For this reason, I am suspicious of relatively new FReepers who continually post articles that contribute to infighting re 2012 rather than constructive actions re current issues and the next election, around the corner.

Good God Almighty how do you make comments like that and sleep at night? That is the kind of comment that belongs over on Kos, not on a serious site... You may disagree with Kraut, and on this I do disagree with him, but he is a brilliant man and his injury is a tragic thing to happen to any human being, one I would never wish on anyone.

Sarah Palin is an authentic American. She relates to people like Reagan did. She isn’t pretentious, arrogant or sleazy. She has IT, electability on a personal level, in spades.

The rest of the GOP contenders are SCARED TO DEATH of her because they know she can whip them in the 2012 primaries without even having to try hard.

Palin isn’t stupid. She is really sharp. However, to run for president, you need a core group of supporters that can:

1. Understand and agree with her core principles.
2. Keep track of the unbelievable number of issues, policies, proposals, etc...
3. Digest the millions of pages of issues, policies, proposals, etc... and condense those into something intelligible so that she can address those things.

If you don’t have that core group helping behind the scenes, you cannot look presidential. Even Reagan had those kind of advisors. Every candidate has them.

Right now, the old boys network in the GOP is trying to isolate her from any of these supporters. They are going ALL OUT trying to kill her momentum so that none of the top professionals will join her campaign.

The GOP insiders, the McCain campaigners, the Romney Supporters and the Democratic Machine are all zeroed in on Palin and are trying to kill her now before some of those professionals sign on to her run for the presidency.

For me, the Republican primary is the main event. If Palin wins the primary, I will do whatever it takes to get her in office. But, by her winning the primary, I would have to believe she is going to come into it very polished, with a sound campaign strategy, and money to boot.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sad to say, but all the above won’t matter one whit after Acorn “helps” out with the upcoming census AND general election.

Oh yea, in addition to the State Sponsored MSM hammering her 24/7 the minute she announces up until the day after the election right up to and including the Electorial College and obligitory appeal to the Supreme Court.

I just know that the democrats can still find hundreds of balding guys with their (there .. for you people in Rio Linda) glasses up on their foreheads to stare for dimpled chads until the cows come home.

Meanwhile lawyers are filing amicus brief after amicus brief with the Supreme Court to overturn her election.

Yea, the same Supreme Court that has CRICKETS CHIRPING
while the Big O and the rest of the Masters of the Universe:

A. Tell us we can’t sell our home until some bureaucrat at the EPA says all the Environment check list is up to snuff.

B. That it’s OK to take your house and sell it to someone else if they can pay more taxes than you do.

C. That GM is too big to go bankrupt and the party that has first dibs on on the bailout money can go to heck so that the unions can get first crack at it.

D. That Acorn, in ‘no way no how’ be considered bipartisan, can be awarded billions (with a B) of TAXPAYER money. (Where is the billions of TAXPAYER money for Conservative causes.)

E. I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture.

F. My point is that ‘very polished, with a sound campaign strategy, and money to boot’ ain’t gonna cut it with the American Idol crowd.

Ronnie R did not become Pres because he was the sharpest knife in the drawer, he won because both dems and pubs sensed that he was a decent man with a large dose of common sense. (His sense of humor did’t hurt ither.)

Sarah gives the American people the same vibe and that is why the dems and MSM are terrified of her and why I will crawl through broken glass to vote for her if she elects to run, even as unpolished she is, as every pundit on this board goes to great lengths to point out.

Oh yea, and don’t forget she has to battle all the absentee military ballots getting ‘lost’ or ‘not arriving in time’ and all the dead/illegal/union people that Acorn will have lined up to vote 2-10 times in different precincts in 2-10 different states.

I think she is smart to ‘keep her powder dry’ to avoid unleashing the ‘night of the long knives’ as long as she can !!

He understood why conservative principles work and why Marxist principle don’t. He understood human nature and he understood the Soviet Union better than most of his advisors and most pundits or wonks.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Now, i’m embarrased.

You said it better in two sentences than (then .. for you folks in Rio Linda) I did in my whole rant of why I like Sara P.

No way would Obama survive double-digit unemployment in a campaign, no matter how badly the media would shill for him.

He who owns the Gold makes the Rules.

He who owns the Administration makes up the CPI and the Unemployment figures.

Just sayin’

Krauthamer is a moderate at best, a socialist at worst so why should any conservative pay any attention to him.

Sarah is the only one in the running that I will even consider voting for.

Yep. I read in one of the comments that she refuses to bring a foreign policy advisory group up to Alaska to help her prepare. If that’s true, then she is in the full grips of the sort of denial to which you refer.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What the heck, let me go out on a limb here.

I do not know if Sara actually said that’You can see Russia from Alaska’ or not.

If she did, I’m sure she meant it metaphorically, ie. Alaska is the closest State to Russia and has concerns with Russia that most other States do not.

May I ask, what it is you’re worried about?

If there’s a specific example of Palin’s shortcomings—in something she has stated—let’s hear it.
