In some major cities total unemployment is in excess of 20 percent. That is as large as during Roosevelt's Great Depression. Sadly, we don't have Al Capone to provide the soup kitchens for them and I suspect that selling apples on the street corners would run into trouble from the food workers UNIONS!

Please do not misread this post. I am not supporting the stimulus spending. But, only about 10-15% of the spending has occurred. They are not going to release and spend the remainder of the money until late this year, or next year. This will make the recovery look robust during the lead up to the mid term elections. Right afterwards, inflation is going to hit like a hurricane.
Not only is not working, it isnt even spent yet. If we did nothing, we would have gotten out of this without it.
