WASHINGTON (AP) - The Organization of American States says Honduran coup leaders have three days to restore deposed President Manuel Zelaya to power. OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza says Honduras "risks being suspended" from the group if the leaders of the military coup do not comply.
Insulza delivered what he called "an ultimatum" as OAS talks regarding the crisis wound past the eight-hour mark.
The 72-hour period appears designed to cover plans for Zelaya, who was ousted in a coup Sunday, to go home, accompanied by the presidents of Argentina and Ecuador, and seek restoration of his authority.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.
WASHINGTON (AP)Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya met Tuesday night with envoys to the Organization of American States to discuss what Argentina's foreign minister called an urgent and dangerous situation in Honduras.
Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana and other Western Hemisphere ambassadors waited for 3 1/2 hours as Zelaya made his way from New York, where earlier in the day the U.N. General Assembly denounced the military coup that drove him from power Sunday. They demanded his immediate return to office.
In a clear threat, Taiana, who was presiding over a special session of the 34-nation assembly, said if the diplomatic approach does not prevail, "we have to take the decision to suspend Honduras in its rights and duties in this organization."
The OAS was expected to challenge the coup, which Zelaya has called brutal and the work of "a small group of usurpers" that carried out "an act of aggression attacking the democratic will of the people."

That would work.
It probably would have turned out better in the long run if he had accidently been shot or done a Vince Foster on himself.
There would have been an immediate uproar but it wouldn't have lasted long.
The problem now is that he is running around outside the country stirring up the leftists and becoming a cause célèbre for Obama, Chavez, and other lefists, socialists, commies and one worlders.
The more they laud him and clamor for his return, the more trouble he will be for Honduras.
The Hondurans should have shot Zelaya while he was attempting to evade arrest...
The window for getting rid of him is not closed. They can still end this issue permanently. Although it may take a bit more “creativity” now.
Life lesson... Never pass up the chance to push a marxist out of an aircraft at high altitude.
Soldiers stormed Zelaya’s residence and flew him into exile early Sunday after he insisted on trying to hold a referendum asking Hondurans if they wanted to reform the constitution. The Supreme Court, Congress and the military all deemed his planned ballot illegal.

we have the proofs of the crimes, e.g. there is a decree with date 25 june 2009 in which the “non binding” poll becomes a BINDING poll for the assembly. second he had another decree by 1 am that DISSOLVED the congress (like the cap and.. ammendment). if the actions of 5 am wouldn’t have been taken we would no host the brand new military arsenal bought by chavez to russia pointing at AMERICA.
