I’ve been in Afghanistan for eight months now, and from what I’ve seen, the vast majority of people here would be perfectly happy to live their lives their own way and leave everybody else alone. Comparing all Muslims to the Taliban would be like comparing all Baptists to Fred Phelps and Westboro “Baptist” Church. While I admit that my contact with Afghans is limited to the Army and the interpreters and contractors who work directly with US forces, I get the impression that 95% or more of the people over here still look up to the US and want to live like we do - free to worship as they wish, and not trying to force their version of religion on anybody else.

Yeah - it is the 99% of muslims that give the remaining 1% a bad name...

And don't get on your high horse. I spent 12 months in Afghanistan in the boonies working with them. Here is a question to ask them when they talk about freedom.

"Then you would not mind if I built a Church here." You will know the answer by the look in their eyes.

I agree with you. Their very religion is based, according to their own "holy" book, the Koran, on conversion or death. In Christianity, conversion must be a personal decision based on faith, or it's meaningless. Islam is more than a (evil) "religion", it's a political creed also. Those who don't want to kill "infidels" aren't devout, according to their own Koran.
