Governor Sanford and the Adultery Problem
Pajamas Media ^ | June 26 | Adam Graham

Sitting in Reno, Nevada, at the Conservative Leadership Conference (CLC) two years ago, I was awed by the governor of South Carolina. Here, at last, was someone who got it. Someone who understood the danger of big government and big spending, and that, yes, our civilization was on the line.

Chuck Muth of Citizen Outreach, who hoped to turn the CLC into CPAC West, reminded us that at the first CPAC a future president (Ronald Reagan) spoke and suggested perhaps we’d heard one at CLC. He then gave Governor Mark Sanford the Barry Goldwater Award. After the event, I walked over to Governor Sanford, gave him my card, and told him to call if he ever decided to run for president.

After recent events, I don’t expect to hear from Governor Sanford. The revelation of his affair with a woman in Argentina is gravely disappointing. Coming as it does on the heels of revelations about Senator John Ensign (R-NV) having an affair, it raises a whole spate of questions.

For years many have insisted these issues of personal character don’t matter. We heard that repeatedly during the presidential campaign of Rudy Giuliani. His supporters insisted that the issues in Giuliani’s life were private.

Of course, it’s more than a family matter....

If he was into male interns and pages, he’d have to run for congress as a democrat!

Yes, thank G-d there are no Homo Repubs in the Congress.

Where’s Governor Kaine? Never mind, he’s a Democrat.

Governor Kaine is cruising rest stops on the NJ turnpike with a discreet trooper escort...

No, wait! That was the other NJ governor.

The boy-man left the country and was basically incommunicado for days, without transferring power to his Lt. Governor. That level of irresponsibility is unacceptable in an elected official.

The medium is the message — relying on such a messenger to champion our cause would ultimately undermine the cause itself. And I say this as a former Sanford supporter.

Yes. I agree. Also the Governor should step down. That level of irresponsibility is grounds enough.

Very good response, jwparkerjr. One of my ancient Bible lessons cautions us about worshiping idols with clay feet. There was only one perfect man and he's not back yet. I have a fear something may pop up with Sarah Palin (or be manufactured) and blown out of proportion, but even so, I have resolved that I would vote / work for her; because, unlike the Leftists, she's not trying to control every single aspect of my life. She's (and Sanford) are not going to tell me what "group" I'm in, what group my children will be allowed in, and what they will be allowed to do. THAT is more important than anything.

And as far as Sanford taking off like that: yes, poor judgment on his part. But, we should ask again, how many HOURS has Obama even spent in the Oval Office since being elected? Mr. Ice-Cream-While-The-World-Burns.

Of course, it’s more than a family matter. Fairly or unfairly, the policy agenda that Governor Sanford advocated will be set back. And Americans hearing him speak about how the government is bankrupting our kids will be unable to avoid thinking of how Sanford spent Father’s Day in the arms of another woman.

Amen. I totally agree with the author. Thanks for nothing, Mark.

A lot of conservative energy went into Mark Sanford and has been completely wasted.

Yep, the damage is done, and anyone who denies or tries to mitigate what was done is also doing a disservice to this country. That includes you, Rush Limbaugh. I am very disappointed with your spin on this.

He is sick..... sick, sick, sick.
Oh, and he wanted to be discovered. His wife knew about the Argentine mistress via a letter she found this past January. He just happened to leave love letters laying around. What a crud!!
