Michael Jackson, the pop star whose health woes now garner as much attention as his hit songs used to, is said to be suffering from internal bleeding so severe it could kill him.
If the 50-year-old entertainer’s biographer is to be believed, Jackson is effectively half-blind, can barely speak and may lack the strength to undergo a lung transplant he desperately needs.
Fans are now adding a rare genetic disorder called Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency to the King of Pop’s list of medical afflictions — a list so long it has its own Wikipedia page.
Those afflicted with the condition can’t produce enough of an important protein that protects the lungs. The deficiency can also affect the liver and skin. Doctors need to conduct a blood test in order to confirm its presence.
The Health Blog caught up with Len Horovitz, a pulmonary physician at Lenox Hill Hospital, who told us that talk of a transplant, if true, indicates the disease has progressed quite far. “That would lead one to believe…he’s had so much lung destruction he’s not even a candidate for preserving what’s left,” said Horovitz, who treated Jackson for dehydration in 1999 but emphasized that he didn’t know whether Jackson has the rare condition. “A transplant is a dire situation.”
According to Horvitz, the disorder’s clinical features could explain reports of Jackson’s troubled sight, difficulty walking and internal bleeding. Jackson is also said to suffer from emphysema, another consequence of the deficiency.

Still just a rumor...we’ll see. I heard it was an auto accident, but it’s similarities to the Hanks hoax makes it pretty suspicious. He’s probably eating at restaurant in New York...
