Not at all. MTV in the early 1980s saw their audience as white suburbanites who were about 95% of the Cable audience back then.

But white suburbanites loved...Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Prince....countless black artists. I fear this is becoming a racial issue in that African Americans weren’t “allowed” to be featured on MTV, implying that the music industry was racist at the time and barriers needed to be broken. In fact, we’re talking about the 1980s, not the stone age.
