The person behind the Three Tenors idea is a genius! Watching them perform was always thrilling. Nessum Dorma - well, that might be the most perfect piece of music ever written, IMO. It must have been beyond amazing to see Pavarotti in person.
He sang one song with his back to the audience facing the donors. From the auditorium, you could hardly tell he had turned around. It was pretty amazing.
Saw Domingo in Tosca at the Met. Outstanding. Saw Cararras in The Force of Destiny at the Met in 1981.
Recently, saw Netrebko and Villazon at the Met in Rigoletto. Anyway, I wouldn't trade my interest in this kind of music for nearly anything.
