To: Albion Wilde

I was stunned and incredibly sad to hear of Pavarotti’s death. Why? I certainly didn’t know him and had only seen him on TV. I guess it was just the loss of a great talent and personality. What a tremendous gift he had.

I was lucky enough to see Pavarotti perform in person. Also saw Domingo and Cararras. At that level of talent, it is hard to say who is the best, etc. However, Pavarotti’s body of work, in terms of vocal quality, is beyond all others that I have heard. He makes Caruso look like a beginner.

Nonetheless, Domingo to me is the greatest of our lifetime because of the fuller dimension of his performances and level of effort.
