The young Jackson was considered bubblegummish music to us Viet era rock fans, and the later Jackson never appealed either...the forerunner of disco pop.
Then he got weird. I’ve always suspected an abusive childhood for MJ.
So, I’ve never really been a fan of his, and I’ve been an active opponent of his lifestyle, but it never hurts to pray when you hear a person’s sick. It certainly makes sense to pray for his kids now that he’s gone.
Hear, hear.
on a related note, I was watching a program tonight that was discussing Jackson, and someone from Rolling Stone made the point that MTV wasn't showcasing black musicians in the early eighties, and Thriller was the first to break that. Well, first of all, when MTV first started, it was exclusively concert footage of guitar oriented rock, and if I remember correctly, they did show footage of Hendrix. second, there really were no black bands at the time doing guitar oriented rock, so I don't buy this notion that it had anything to do with racism, which is what this guy from Rolling Stone seemed to be suggesting.
