It would be funny if it turned out to be a bird call used in hunting game instead of a flute. I'd still call it a culturally sophisticated example of flexibility and creativity but I don't think the left would be as psyched about it.

I was thinking along the same lines, but of the flutes being a means to coordinate the hunt - think of a boatswains pipe.. Music could easily have evolved from that activity.
