This isn’t even the Chicago machine. This was two Republicans—Sanford’s own lieutenant governor and a senior state senator—who first started publicizing that he’d disappeared and nobody knew where he was. Did they know about the affair? Maybe, maybe not. But they were the ones that first got the story into the media eye locally in Columbia, and then it got picked up nationally.

I wonder if Andre Bauer and Jake Knotts are sitting back watching that presser and saying “whoa, he did WHAT?”

Any photos yet of the New Argentine Firecracker?

Here's the old one, Fannie Foxxe, with boyfriend Wilbur Mills:

LOL. Don't have an aneurysm. I'm a realist. I think what Sanford did was wrong. Is it the worst thing in the world? No. What I really think is more concerning is Sanford taking off and not telling anyone, including his staff and his wife. It is indicative of a certain instability.

Psychologically, I hope the guy is stable enough to not harm himself as he seems out of it. I think Sanford is not a sociopath like Clinton and actually does have a conscience.

Unfortunately for Mark Sanford, we have standards.

Fortunately for Bill Clinton, Democrats didn’t.

It is most unfortunate, but there are many who would say yes..if you are not a bible thumper you cannot be a conservative.. Hard to believe..but there are so many who think that way.

Well that’s a lie. She handled herself quite well her last trip.

At this point she’s the only one I’d give a damn about helping win office. She’s the only conservative high profile enough who’s had their life ripped, flipped and searched and comes out who she says she is. That alone places her top of my list.

But, the decision to commit adultery falls on one person. When one has four children, you do not put what you want on the list of what is important anymore.

Well said. He's brought shame and devastation on the innocent lives of his children, as well as the two children of his married bimbo. It wouldn't matter a hill of beans whatever he could come up with in an attempt to justify his guilt and responsibility.

I not criticizing your opinion. I simply disagree. But someone does need to tell her to take the “real American” schtick out of her talking points. Whomever told her this was wise has done her a terrible disservice.

Save the sanctimonious self righteousness.

Good luck with that....what would FR do without it? Lecturing is the forte here...and even when no one is defending him, lol. WOW!

The best that Jindal could do is be Palin’s veep, and I don’t think he’s ready for that. She needs an old Washington hand.

Tell him to start looking at Sarah Palin.

Well, they can’t impeach him just for the affair (it’s “just about sex,” after all). But about leaving the state incommunicado for five days, eh...I kind of doubt it, but knowing the General Assembly down there, they may try it as payback for him fighting them tooth and nail on their pork for the past seven years.

What a beautiful family! How sad. And pathetic if he tries to justify what he has done in any way.

“I think Sanford is not a sociopath like Clinton and actually does have a conscience.” Most astute observation on this whole thread!

If Obama stays the course, and his numbers stay their current downward course, by 2012 people will be screaming for a third Bush.

But, Palin for me, please.
