Let's get real here. The Governor is not like the President. He doesn't have the nuclear football and must be available at a moment's notice. Sanford was hours away from SC. He could easily respond to any emergencies. All governors travel around the US and overseas.

Could you please point me to a reporting of that fact? All I’ve read is that he finally “called in” to the COS and was then told that he needed to “get back”. I wouldn’t call that staying in contact. At all. Perhaps there is something I’ve missed??
