The system seems to attract people with some pretty serious character flaws.

If you look at "the system" that we've let the politico's create for themselves (and the system WE pay for) it's really no wonder that it tends to draw corrupt figures. By and large it has been my observation that the majority of people who are drawn to politics are people who couldn't make it in the private sector. We see this over and over. I mean, really, what else would folks like Barney Fwank or Obamalamadingdong do were it not for politics? Consider the perks of free health care for life for themselves and their family members, cushy retirement bennies, contacts with prominent members of the business community who would otherwise never give these political creeps the time of day. Most of the business community who deal directly with political figures are perfectly willing to go along with whatever the politico's do so long as they get their take or have some measurable influence. It's a disgusting mess.

Politicians and diapers should both be changed often and for the exact same reason. This is precisely why we voters, the ones who are supposed to be in charge, need to make 2010 the year we flush the incumbents.....whether or not the voters have had enough remains to be seen, but I won't hold my breath.....

I thought your description was excellent and sent it to a friend of mine...this is what I got back in response...

In the end it is income transfer and monopolistic control (such as the FDA) that drives corruption in government. It was not the intention of the founding fathers for the government to tax us and pay for social security, medicare, medicaid, welfare, corporate farming, stimulus checks, pork, entitlements, bail outs of big companies, bail out of state or city governments, military bases all over the world, foreign wars such as Viet Nam and Iraq which generate huge profits for the military industrial complex, etc. If income transfers were illegal (which they are based on a strict interpretation of the constitution) then we would be voting for representatives in a very limited Federal Government to protect us with a standing army, a judicial and criminal system, certain administrative costs to coordinate the states, regulate pollution that causes death and disease, regulate industry to the degree necessary to prevent crime and scams, etc. If the Federal Government could not engage in income transfers then politicians could not buy votes and most of the problem would be solved. As it is the Federal Government is little more than organized crime and electing new crime leaders more often will not solve the problem.
