Surely the Iranian people are aware that even if Mousavi had won in a landslide, he’d still just be a mouthpiece for the Grand Ayatollah.
I completely agree. But a vote for Mousavi was a vote against Ahmadinejad. Even though from our perspective, there is very little difference between them the Iranian people are entitled to their own choice.
In the end we are probably better served with Ahmadinejad. If Mousavi had gotten into office, the Obama regime would argue that it was their ‘smart’ diplomacy that had won the day. As it is we will hear the same, or even worse, demagoguery, making the case to the rest of the world, if not to Obama, that Iran is ruled by fanatics.
