Letterman did a reasonably professional but bare minimum apology. He apologized to the Palins for his joke aimed at the Governor and one of her daughters caught Willow (rather than the intended Bristol) in the blast.

Well, since a joke against Willow (being 14) is beyond the pale even for a group like NOW and an advertiser for CBS, Letterman went directly to damage control after the first effort failed and made a blanket apology to everyone mentioned and the family besides for that particular joke.

Note that his tasteless Top Ten jokes aimed at the Governor were not included in his apology and that he summarily said that the next time he makes a joke at one of the Palin’s daughters, he’ll make sure it’s aimed at Bristol (because she’s of legal age at 18) and so will have nothing to apologize for.

He did right to apologize for the joke that caught Willow and even admitted that the joke itself was both crude and confusing, so he took the blame for the joke’s original author (whoever that might be).

But he left the door wide open for future crudity at the adult Palins and so, folks, look out. I’m glad I smoked Letterman’s act out long ago and haven’t watched him regularly in over a decade.

Yes, they have.

"If it was about an 18 year old, she is of age. It wouldn’t have been rape."

Forcing yourself on someone 18 years old isn't RAPE? Is there something WRONG with you?

As much as we are going to get. I seriously doubt CBS will fire him.

Your last sentence says what is likely the truth about Letterman. Persons with a clean heart do not think or speak as he did about Gov Palin and her daughters. Letterman is a very sour, unhappy, individual who strikes me as somebody who loathes themselves. He is paid to do an intellectually dishonest job requiring hypocrisy and being willing to beat up on young women over the very same thing as his much older self has done. It is the same with others in the media and entertainment industry whose whole careers depend on bashing Republicans, Christians, openly pro Americans and flag wavers, to name a few acceptable targets to aim at. They are all taking Judas money and that cannot make for a peaceful mind or life.

Nothing in the joke said that it was forced. If the joke was about Bristol, he was calling her a sl*t.

Great idea..... 11 months till Indy 500, keep pounding the line “As a sponsor, do support David Letterman’s jokes about raping underage girls?”

He will forever remain clueless, that's the liberal mindset, but I agree with Blogger. Its probably the best this numb skull could muster. You cannot get blood from a rock...I'd let it die down and not give him anymore publicity. In the long run it wont raise his ratings....and sponsors know that they catch heat from the idiots they sponsor...I am sure that sponsors letters written to CBS put them on notice..

You’re right. He didn’t apologize for the Spitzer joke, either. He’s doing the absolute bare minimum apology for the network. He may be contrite, but it’s only over the Yankee Stadium joke.

knocked up does not mean raped, it means impregnated.

Also, another thing I find strange is why A Rod isn’t sueing Lettermans ass for insinuating he is a sexist pig who goes around knocking up14 year olds, or 18 year olds.

The problem is that there’s a reserve shepherd, and another after him, and another after him, and another after him, ad infinitum.

If you start at the bottom and work your way up, by the time you get to the top, the head guy is crapping his pants in fear. Makes the job easier.
