MIAMI (AP) -- A teenager was arrested early Sunday and accused of committing a string of gruesome cat mutilation deaths that had horrified residents of his Miami area community, authorities said.
.... Some of the dead cats were missing fur and appeared to have been cut with a sharp, straight instrument, police said.
.... Tyler Weinman, 18, was taken into custody early Sunday at a party, police said. Weinman was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary.

I am an active parent with kids and I pay attention to everything they do.
You are either not a parent (or don’t care about your kids)and are the reason why things like this happen.
Sociopaths and psychopaths are frequently able to hide their behaviors extremely well and those deviant behaviors will surface no matter what their environment. They often hide so well that even the family members are totally unaware of the condition.
If this little SOB was truly able to hide this behavior from his family and friends, then his mother is probably completely devastated right now and I, for one, will not stoop to condemning her until I know she was involved.
She deserves our sympathy until we learn that she deserves our scorn.
True psychopathy has absolutely nothing to due with parenting.

If her son was as demented as he'd would have been if he committed these vicious acts, wouldn't there have had to be some signs that all wasn't right with the kid?
I guess I’m the only one that expected a teenager caught killing neighborhood pets in Miami to be named Dexter.
I agree. Apparently others disagree and have called me names in their frustration.

Indeed. Who knows what innate psych problems the kid may have been born with, but the loony mom sure hasn’t helped matters. I wonder about the Dad. Couldn’t find anything on him except standard dentist stuff. Sounds like he may have fled from his marriage to loony-mom.
That is so true. I know one family that has had terrible problems with a brother of theirs, but the truth about him doesn't surface unless you are a family member or a victim. To look at and listen to him, you'd think the guy was a saint. It's not until years later that you realize that he's nuts and the "saint" is an act.
I'm glad this teenager was caught early, otherwise who knows what his sick fetish would escalate to.
Children who harm animals and start fires inevitably commit violence on people. Psychologists consider youngsters like this boy very dangerous. Inherently we all know this, all of us except the judge.
Yes this is a true statement of fact, but in society today A PARENT MUST be able to see through the act and watch what THEIR child is doing.
Why was this kid ALLOWED to be out at night? Who was he with and what was he supposed to be doing?

This kid locked up...as he should be. Meanwhile, the media applauds people like George Tiller who mutilate babies on a daily basis.
Yeah, well, now I’m an adult and I murder mice, rats, voles, moles, gophers, and possums. With the logic used by people on this thread, eventually I’ll be murdering kittens and puppies and then on to people.
I don’t feel like we have enough details on that case to really judge. It certainly does sound like Huckabee wielded his political clout inappropriately in getting his son off the hook for any formal charges. On the other hand, I’ve never heard anything about what Huckabee himself was doing to try to set his son straight. The young man was fired from his camp counselor job, and for all I know he also faced serious punishment at home and perhaps was even sent to some sessions with a psychologist or psychiatrist as well. If there was a national activist campaign to get David investigated and charged, when that wouldn’t have happened if it had been some random kid with no political connections, it may have felt to Huckabee that political considerations were interfering with his efforts to discipline and correct his son in a way that any other father would have been allowed to do. David seems to have had an unremarkable young adulthood, since then.
I notice Mike has slimmed down a lot since that photo. I sure hope David has too — he’s pretty massive in that photo, but does look at least somewhat slimmer in later headshots I’ve seen.
It’s the methods and motivation that make the difference. Do you spend time torturing these animals before killing them? And would you get a bigger thrill from killing a pet rat that you know some kid is devoted to, and leaving it mutilated where the kid will find it, than from killing a wild rat who is raiding your trash, and disposing of it in a dumpster?
The kid’s mom is well connected, a real people person. She’s a life-coach, member of a citizen’s watch group. Her son seems to be an uber-smart, wise-ass. To paraphrase the great Henny Youngman: “How in the world did a nice Jewish kid grow up to be a cat killer?”
Easy, will say the def.attnys: Somewhere down the line people responsible for the kid’s upbringin, w/exception of Mom, did something wrong and made the kid what he is today. Result?
Expect a lot of law suits, a whole lot of law suits, expect Mom to campaign for a national awareness about kids who kill animals, and how the govt. needs to spend more money in school so teachers can recognize potential signs and expect the kid to serve little, if any, jail time.

Truth is, the "kid" is 18, out of high school, and hanging out with his friends. I doubt Mom is looking after him much anymore.
Deceptive people are very good at fooling those and it's an even bigger fan to their ego if they can scam very close family members or people who they perceive as smarter than them.
About the "saint" I posted about, he even fooled his own mother and she didn't find out the truth about him until he stole almost $200,000 from her bank accounts. Crazy people don't advertise themselves as such, unfortunately.
His boy's mom would fit into one of two categories: one who (1) is completely deceived by him; or (2) knows about his evil ways and enables him by covering up for him.
