Obama has seen his birth certificate. He says so in his book.Oh, well, if it's in his book, it MUST be true.

(Hey, Obama! Where's my check?)

Your sarcasm is cute. It's also childish.
Obama wrote, "I discovered this article, folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms, when I was in high school. It's a short piece..."
Whether it's true or not is irrelevant.
In the law, that statement is an ADMISSION. It is an admission of fact that Obama would have to dispute in a court of law.
This is Obama saying that his birth certificate exists, that his grandmother had a copy, and that he's seen it.
So he knows what's on it, and whatever it is -- or isn't -- it's the reason he is fighting its release so ferociously.
Further, this provides motivation for Obama's emptying Madeline Dunham's apartment within hours of her death. He was looking for this document before it fell into the "wrong" hands.
