My grandson, who is a staunch Democratic and staunch Catholic, attended one semester at Hillsdale two years ago. When I asked him if he found the professors too conservative, he said “not at all”. They were way too anti-Catholic for his taste, and felt that he almost had to renounce his Catholic beliefs in his written papers to get a decent grade. That and coupled with the high tuition ($32,000-$36,000), he made the decision to leave.

In the interview Larry Arnn says that the undergrad tuition is around $19K, which doesn't seem at all high for a college with this ranking. Also, there are a lot of very Catholic academics, like Robby George at Princeton, who don't seem to have a problem with Hillsdale's classical liberal curriculum or orientation. And, of course, William F. Buckley was a "semi-devout" Catholic.
