Any health care reform plan that Obama signs is almost certain to call for nutrition counseling, obesity screenings and wellness programs at workplaces and community centers. He wants more time in the school day for physical fitness, more nutritious school lunches and more bike paths, walking paths and grocery stores in underserved areas.
The president is filling top posts at Health and Human Services with officials who, in their previous jobs, outlawed trans fats, banned public smoking or required restaurants to provide a calorie count with that slice of banana cream pie.
Even Congress is getting into the act, giving serious consideration to taxing sugary drinks and alcohol to help pay for the overhaul.
To some, it smacks of a nanny state on steroids but for others who fret that America is turning into one big Overeaters Anonymous meeting, Obamas prescription is like a low-fat dream come true.

BTW, Communism ,socialism, and fascism are just different names for totalitarian government. If you support totalitarian government, then you are liable to be labeled any one of the three.
“No it’s not. It’s the fault of politicians that someone else supports.”
....again I’ll remind you. You said “Im all in favor of these initiatives.” Sounds like support to me.
I am in favor of using whatever methods are needed to get people off their fat butts and start getting healthier so I won’t have to pay for their bad habits with my premiums and taxes. If that takes $100 per pack cigarette tax and a $50 per Twinkie tax, that’s fine. It won’t raise MY taxes. I’m not in favor of raising all taxes, just fat people’s and smokers’. That not totalitarian.
I’m sick and tired of paying my good money for someone else’s bad habits.
Is that you, Obama?
What will michelle my belle’s reaction be to having to go on a diet?
I think you are missing the basic point of liberty.
Here’s a hint:
Stay the f__k out of my life.
She’s already on the high protein Wagyu beef diet!
“I believe both of you will change your tune about government mandates the first time your kid is bleeding profusely and is turned away from an ER.”
I’ll see your government mandate to treat bleeding children and raise you a government mandate to remove all items which will cause the bleeding from your home. One will always lead to the other.
One thing that I have found is that since I have transitioned to an HSA, I am more empowered than ever with medical folks. I negotiate with my GP, my dentist, my optomitrist, etc. There isn’t a procedure that is not negotiable. In addition, I am not included in the policy options that have all of the draconian requirements.
Darn you! Now I am hungry. What time is dinner at your place?
Nice to see ya FRiend.
To his own gang he is, and has been for a very long time, at a minimum sexually irrelevant and at a max sexually revolting. Look at Hef. Same thing different team.
Don’t forget Jerrold Nadler and Deb Stablecow.
ROFLMSS!!!!!
Technically there was no "dinner" a my place tonight. It was an "eat what you want where you want when you want" evening here because of elementary school graduation.
Come see me this weekend :)
Or by making a substantial contribution to the Democratic Party. The result is going to be Chicago style politics with Soviet style social engineering.
I told you so. There, I said it.
On one hand I am shocked and speechless hearing this on a conservative site. Apparently the apocalypse is upon us.
On the other hand, if I had a dollar for every 300 pound fat woman who waived their sausage like fingers in front of their face to blow away my cigarette smoke and then dove back into their plate of nachos with refried beans, I'd be a billionaire.
I dunno anymore.
Why are you in favor of telling someone else what to do? If you don’t like the expense of covering them, then work to *STOP INSURING THEM*!!!
Then it becomes *THEIR* choice as to whether they want health care or junk food.
Yeah, it is. That's how they get into power. They divide and conquer. First it's cigarettes and twinkies, then it's guns and ammunition. Then it's gasoline and cars. Then carbon taxes which tax everything else, electricity, water, food, clothing, housing, everything. Remember tax money means power in politicians hands.
Do you really want to give politicians the money to buy the influence and votes to give them totalitarian power over your life? Cause thats what you are doing. It always starts by taxing or banning other peoples habits and lives, but it always ends up effecting everyone. Always, no exceptions.
“Im sick and tired of paying my good money for someone elses bad habits.”
Cigarette and Twinkie taxes are not going to keep you from doing that. If anything it will take even more of your money. Taxes do not modify behavior. If taxes become prohibitively high, then people will just buy black market cigarettes and twinkies. You could even ban cigarettes and twinkies and people would still find a way to buy them.
What high taxes and bans do is provide criminals with a lucrative new business opportunity. Just think of the hundreds of millions they could make if they become the sole suppliers of cigarettes and twinkies?
Heck, they would be richer than the drug kingpins of South America. Think of all the judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officers they could buy with that kind of money?
Judging by his popularity with the ladies, I wouldn't say Hef is sexually irrelevant or sexually revolting. He isn't fat either. Perhaps Michael Moore would be a better example?
The only thing interesting to the ladies about Hef is his association with Ben Franklins.
