Sorry maybe its just me but this story sounds really f-ed up.

There’s a man lying dead on his own property. And this is very bothersome.
The shooter could have left when he went to retrieve his shotgun.

From a friend of the family of Harry Lee “Chuck” Derryberry :

None of you knew him, Chuck was a decent guy in his own right, his family are good people, but he did have his violent streak.. this was not uncommon throughout most of his life.

He was murdered on Monday, by his cousin, Brian. The family was having a dispute, and Chuck was never one to know when it was time to stop being violent or be quiet. Brian is a good guy takes care of his family and yes he’ll have to live with what he did for the rest of his life, its very sad. Lookout Mountain however isn’t a strange place. I live here just a few houses down from the family, a few houses down from Chucks house and Brians.

In response to Burnitup : Chuck could be a very violent man when he was drinking, drunk or on drugs, I can’t verify which he was on at the time, but I’m fairly sure he was at least intoxicated. Brian was not trying to just protect himself. Chucks mother, his aunt, & his female cousin, as well as his male cousin (The shooter). Were all in a skuffle with Chuck, and he was beating the tar outta the females mentioned above... Brian felt he needed to protect them, not just himself, before Brian went to get the gun, Chuck had broken at least 3 of his 62 yr old mothers bones. That is why he didn’t just walk away.

I would like to respond to the stupidity of this writer. This is from an eye witness to the events on june 8, 2009. First of all Brian had left his aunts home after the altercation. Chuck came after Brian to his home. Brian did not go after Chuck. Brian was trying to protect his 14 daughter and wife who were in the yard with him. Brian is going to have to live with this the rest of his life, killing someone that he loved and never had a disagreement with until that horrible day. I also hate the way that the news has portrayed Chuck as this evil person. He had his problems with anger, drugs and alcohol, but he also had a kindness about him. He was a kind hearted person. He was just a broke person. I have no doubt in my heart that Chuck is in a better place, and he is truly happy with himself now. He was truly loved and will be missed. No one has the right to judge what Brian done because you weren't there and I don't think anyone really knows what they would do in that situation.
