No, it was the friction of a wire rubbing against the fuel tank that caused a spark that actually was able to penetrate the fuel tank, that caused the explosion.

What motive for a bomb?

There’s no point in a terrorist blowing up a plane and not taking credit for it.

Kill someone for the insurance money? Maybe. But why take all those innocent people?

Wonder what they know about the bomb threat?

No, Bad wiring is easily enough to blow a plane apart and spread wreckage over 3 miles.
