Seriously, what is your problem? She isn’t your Queen, she is ours. And her being snubbed is not just a snub to her, it is a snub to Britain and to Canada and to all the veterans who view her sovereign and were visibly angry that she had not been invited.
The royals were not motivated by maintaining some sort of grip on imperial power, because they had none. They haven’t really had any political power since the 18th century when George III signed over control of the Crown Estates to Parliament in return for a regular stipend. They were motivated by those old fashioned virtues of honour and duty to their country. George VI practiced everyday with a sten gun and a pistol and insisted in staying in London, where Buckingham Palace got bombed during the Blitz, so they were facing the same risks as other Londoners.
The fact that she served briefly in a non-combatent military capacity in WWII is still more than can be said of Obama, Sarky or any of the other heads of state there. And BTW, George VI was an actual combat veteran from the previous war who was a midshipman on HMS Collingwood during the Battle of Jutland, and as has already been mentioned, her husband was also a Navy Veteran who saw action on board the Battleship HMS Valient during the Battle of Crete and was mentioned in dispatches....

You are damned right she isn’t our “Queen”, my family helped make that become a fact.

I don’t have a problem and if you read my posts you would have seen that I don’t agree with the snub, I was merely correcting myths about her “military service” but it is always nice to hear from a foreigner on this American conservative political website, interesting view that your country has about your Monarchs, thanks for seeking me out to post to, I hope that you continue to learn from American conservatives.

Nobody has my unconditional respect. And that includes the Royals. Prince Chuckles doesn’t impress me much at all, but the Queen we have is a damn sight more worthy of respect than any other head of state of any country I can think of, with the possible exception of Juan Carlos I, the King of Spain, whom I also hold in the highest regard....

At the end of the war in Europe, on VE Day, Elizabeth and her sister mingled anonymously with the celebratory crowds in the streets of London. She later said in a rare interview, "we asked my parents if we could go out and see for ourselves. I remember we were terrified of being recognised ... I remember lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, all of us just swept along on a tide of happiness and relief."

I noticed that too, I bet her bodyguards didn't like it, it makes you wonder about myths like post 26 "She drove a truck during the war. And, she went out of her way to greet American soldiers in the clubs without ever mentioning who she was."

I don’t know about her actions during her short time in the service, but I do know that a few months after the war ended, she visited the hospital where my great-uncle Gordon was recuperating from injuries he’d suffered in France the year before (a piece of shrapnel from a German mortar had almost completely severed his lower jaw) and he recalled that she was very down-to-earth and spent quite a bit of time talking to the GI’s and thanking them for their service and sacrifice.

I would think she and much of the leadership did much of that kind of thing and still do when it is called for.

‘BETHESDA, Md. – President Barack Obama has visited wounded and recovering troops, awarding two Purple Hearts.

Obama spent about an hour Monday afternoon at the National Naval Medical Center outside Washington.

He met with 26 inpatients, as well as about 30 outpatients and their families. He awarded two Purple Hearts during the visit.’

No, because it doesn’t matter if she was filmed fixing a truck or if she single handedly took Berlin.

My Father, Father in law, six uncles and a bunch of uncle-in-laws were all drafted, kicking a screaming to fight in the war. They were heroes. But they no more wanted to get into harms way that anyone else.

She did was she was asked to do. Can you imagine Sasha or the other one going into the Army or Marine Corps for any reason?

And the Queen Mother had as much guts and determination as the rest of them combined. I always liked her.
