Lost in the Labyrinth of Race

One of the unexpected results of the Sotomayor nomination is a refocusing on the politics of racial identity and the fossilized institutions of affirmative action-or the belief that the U.S. government should use its vast power to ensure an equality of result rather than a fairness of opportunity.

In the last fifty years, United States has evolved into a complex multiracial state. Race no longer is necessarily an indicator of income or material success-as the record of, say, Japanese-Americans or, indeed Asians in general, attests.

And what criterion constitutes race itself nowadays, when almost every family has someone who is half-Hispanic, a quarter-Asian, one-half black, or part Pakistani? What percentage of one’s lineage ensures purity of race, or qualifies for minority status? Are California Hispanics minorities, or so-called whites that are now a smaller percentage of the state population?..

This is really quite simple:

White men are the majority. They are oppressors and must be relegated to inferior status in all facets of life. Their earnings must be confiscated.

All non-whites, as well as women, Jewish people, and Moslems are minorities, and are therefore endowed with superior empathy, wisdom, and indeed, intrinsic value as human beings. They are entitled to preference in everything and, if necessary, the earnings of others.

Every institution in society must be mobilized to enforce this code.

We need a new terminology.

John Derbyshire proposes, some years back, the following.

Designated Victim Group (DVG) and Designated Oppressor Group (DOG).

Much more accurate than majority/minority, which was never accurate, as 75% of the population.

Convert that last sentence to:

Much more accurate than majority/minority, which was never accurate, as since women have always been considered a DVG, they’ve been upwards of 75% of the population.

What is think is really interesting is the very real but unacknowledged ranking of DVGs. Thus a white woman coming into conflict with a black man (Hilary vs. Obama) is considered white (DOG) rather than female (DFG). Thus race trumps sex.

Similarly, when Americans come into conflict with Central Americans, the CAs are classified as hispanics (DVG). When the exact same CAs come into conflict with indigenous groups (DVG) in their own country, they stop being hispanic and morph to white (DOG). Can’t have conflict between two DVG groups, you know.
