The GOP's leadership is hopelessly out of touch with not only the base, but the mainstream of America, when it comes to confirmation hearings for Judge Sotomayor. If the DC denizens default in their responsibility to expose her radical views and make the Democrats play defense, it is they who may doom the GOP to extinction.
In commenting on the National Journal poll that 64% of "GOP insiders: advise dodging a battle on Sotomayor Bill Kristol quipped in his blog
Safe rule of American politics: Two-thirds of "GOP Insiders" are never right.
Kristol offered the poll as another reason to take the stand on principal and go on the record opposing Sotomayor's confirmation. I agree. My answer to those like Peggy Noonan who say that Republicans need to "play grown-up" because Sotomayor's confirmation is a done deal is that one of the first lessons taught in law school is that over turning established precedent usually begins with the bold and well reasoned dissent.
Such dissent may also be very smart politics. A Quinnipiac poll reports that 54% approve of the Sotomayor nomination with 22% undecided. Rasmussen reported that 49% of those polled had a favorable view of Sotomayor and only 45% said they wanted her confirmed, with large numbers of undecideds. More than one commentator has noted these numbers are well below those reported to be Obama's overall approval ratings.

Bears, woods, ****
Of course.
Frankly, the problem is the ‘leadership’, but ONLY the leadership.
The GOP needs a good beheading...where’s Osama when we need him?
Cornyn, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, and the other weenies saying not to push too hard on this radical, racist feminazi are worse than pathetic.
The Republican Senators should be drawing the line in the sand on this one, for once making a clear distinction between themselves and the Evil Party, and getting ready for 2010. Instead, as all too often in the past they can’t pull themselves away from being the Stupid Party.
The GOP, is as dynamic as an Armadillo in the middle of a freeway.
Congressional Republicans never met a Presidential nominee they didn’t roll over for.
Leadership? What leadership? LOL!
“Will the GOP Leadership Fail on SotoMayor?”
Well, they’re on a roll.
The streak will continue.
We will on 4 July.
Of course, why ask?
OH WOW, this is depressing to read. Maybe, just maybe the GOP will finally stand up.
Worse, they won’t even show up.
They can’t. Their legs are locked in a kneeling position.
I congratulate Judge Sotomayor on her nomination and commend President Obama for nominating the first person of Puerto Rican heritage to the United States Supreme Court. The confirmation process must focus on determining whether Judge Sotomayor is qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Qualifications for judicial service include not only experience and character but, most importantly, a proper understanding of the power and role of judges in our system of government. Judges must decide cases based on the law, not on their personal views or opinions. Judges swear an oath to decide cases impartially, without regard to the identity of the parties before them. I will focus on determining whether Judge Sotomayor is committed to deciding cases based only on the law as made by the people and their elected representatives, not on personal feelings or politics. I look forward to a fair and thorough process.
Senator “Gutless” Hatch’s statement on Obama appointing an anti-white, sexist racist and Loose Constructionist to the
Highest Court in the Country.
Details?
I wish all the “tea party “groups would all talk to each other and all hit the streets the same day .One GIANT demonstration will be much more effective than a few hundred smaller ones. I say a VERY aggressive march on DC with a million man attendance at minimal.
LOL, isn’t that a pitiful picture?
The once vibrant GOP, a beacon of hope for America and the world, has been undermined by the Bush dynasts and their allies in Congress to the point that they are physically incapable of responding to a fraud, a racist, a closet Muslim and a socialist.
Instead of an effect deterrant to the march of degenerate western European socialism, they have become a money-sucking obstacle to anyone who really wants to mount an effective response to Obama, Soto-Mayor, Reid, Pelosi and the others of their ilk.
Unfortunately, the GOP will not suffer a fatal heart attack and leave a vacancy for a more worthy successor. Instead, it will die slowly - making occasional successes, but in the long run just screwing things up badly for people who expect their political party to support a strong America, a small government, the Constitution, and traditional American values.
