Moderator might want to now considering changing this thread title to "Have Conducted Test". They seismology, and North Korea's own media announcement just now, confirms it. What needs to be confirmed is if they used regular high explosures or actual nukes, but they did in fact use the same tunnel as three years ago under Bush/Rice's appeasement.
They saw their hardline-ism worked under Bush unchallenged, they will doubly increase their efforts under this sap, Obama, IMHO.

It takes a lot of engineering to make a warhead's "physics package" survive as a ballistic missile RV... I hate to say it, but I don't think they need a missile to strike S. Korea or Japan. A tanker will do. Even a nice sized fishing boat.

4.7 is really too big to do with conventional explosives, realistically.

Exactly...you could hear the “awwwwwwwwww man...really? awww sh-t...im gonna miss this thing now”
To: MNlurker
No, but folks are pretty pissed off about it here in Tokyo.
It (and the launch by N. Korea in April that went unchallenged by Bozo (Obama) like his predecessor), will cause Japan to consider the nuke option themselves. I am not kidding, these voices are going to get louder here in Tokyo. They know they cannot rely on Obama, they must defend their own 120 million people here in Japan. Obama or no Obama. I think there sould be a Tokyo-Tel Aviv alliance if you ask me.

working on magnitudes of scale vis a vis 2006 test, but so far what is known is that it was stronger than KILCH-2006 blast

Obama is pushing the world to the next World War,
and America to its second civil war. Interesting times.

Who ever thought we’d possibly see the day that the USA was isolated politically and diplomatically from two long time allies is what you think could actually does occur. Freaking mind blowing...

Breaking: Japan says it will respond to the North Korean nuclear test “in a very responsible manner” at the United Nations.
To: Diogenesis
One pattern that is emerging is that North Korea tends to do this blasts and launches right during US major holidays, such as Fourth of July, Memorial Day, etc., and often on a Sunday. They try to do it when there might be some what of a personnel standown due to holidays, that is my reading. The US press is out as well, just young interns running the night desks back in the states, so you get news very slowly and often inaccurately out of any type of CNN, CBS, NYT, MSNBC type operation.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Japan test a nuke very soon. They’re not going to sit on their hands.

I blame Bush myself for a lot of this, and I am a Korean region specialist for more than 25 years. -- AND a John Bolton Conservative.
What that idiot Obama will do or will not do, of course, is entirely a different, uncharted, and perhaps horrid story. Neither of these American leaders--in my book--have known what to do with Kim Jong il. It is pathetic.

House Speaker Pelosi in China for climate talks Just curious... I wonder if the House Speaker's visit has anything to do with this, or is this purely coincidental?
What a great gig to get out of blaming the CIA of lying... Get her out of the country to start with, and this is going to guarantee any scrutiny of her traitorous words will be put in the round file.
After all, we know that climate talks are more important than the country's security. /sarc

Thought about that, remembering the July 4th episode.
Good analysis.
It also doubles as a ‘slap’ in the face of Uncle Sam.
Not sure CNN, CBS, NYT, or MSNBC are accurate in any case.
They are reliably, precisely, pro-terrorist.
