People who are late always blame other people or circumstances for their tardiness. One woman in my group was always late for work and one day she wrote down the explanation, “Hazmat”. I thought she meant there had been a terrorist attack in her hometown — not that I would have excused her for that reason, either — but someone explained that “Hazmat” meant there was hazardous material on the highway when she was driving to work.

When people who are consistently punctual are late once a decade, they say, “It was my fault. I apologize. I understand you have to dock my pay.”

Yes, you're right about that.

Tardiness demonstrates that you are self-centered. If you are informed of an appointment you can think, "I'm supposed to meet him there at such and such a time," or "He's supposed to meet me there at such and such a time."

If you think that you're to meet him, you'll be on time. If you think that he's to meet you, you'll probably be late.
