You can limit the size of the graphic by adding "width=xxx" to the HTML code, where xxx is the number of pixels you want.
For example: IMG SRC=blah blah blah width=300
I've found 300 to be a decent size for here.
That makes the appearance more acceptable., but the file size stays the same and so does the loading time.
How do you find the html code when you copy properties from a published pic?
That resizes the presentation only, not the size of the graphic you have to download.
You want to present a smaller graphic and be nice to your fellow FReepers, get a Photobucket.com account, resize the original on your machine, upload it to Photobucket and link to that.
Granter there are fewer of us today on dialup than before, but I used to completely dump threads overloaded with stupidly-sized graphics -- your content went unread.
