There was also something about a book deal but not sure what Newt did that was supposedly unethical.
Cheating on a wife with cancer sounds so familar...hmmmm....who could it be? /s.

There was also something about a book deal but not sure what Newt did that was supposedly unethical. We can see precisely what happened. Drip, drip, drip of inconsequential stories that sound bad. No one quite seems to remember... These are the Newt stories that stick in my head (not necessarily related to his leaving office).
I think the whole government shut down thing made Newt look weak because we got the blame. The couple in Florida "wiretapping" Newt's conversation with someone. Connie Chung got Newt's mom to say that Newt said Hillary was a bitch.

Allegedly - he told his wife he wanted a divorce (to marry the other woman) when she was in the hospital recovering from breast surgery.

Newt's crime was beating the Democrats after they controlled the government for 40 years. The wife with cancer is still around and supports Newt to this day. But the one or two interviews I saw with her couldn't begin to counteract the fact he got 100% negative media coverage. Plus the Democrats filed over 400 ethics complaints against him to destroy him financially.
It's what they do. They did it to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Tom Delay and Sarah Palin. They smash-mouth Republicans so violently even their own voters start calling for their ouster. It always works.
