Honoring a vile view point is not engagement...it is capitulation. Capitulation on fundamental moral principle is evil.
A couple of days ago a couple of male co-workers in my office were discussing whether parents should be allowed to withhold chemotherapy from their dying child. Apparently the parents were making their case on religious grounds. (I don’t know whether that was their real reason, or whether they just believed their child had suffered enough and should be allowed to die peacefully, and were using the religious-grounds reason to prevent a court from intervening.)
Anyway, one of my co-workers, a Boulder liberal, was making the case that the state should intervene on behalf of the child and overrule the parents’ decision. I turned around and said, “Should the state also intervene to prevent parents from aborting a child?” He muttered, “I’m not going to go down the abortion path here,” and walked out.
Liberals are all about giving the state rights over parents—until what the parents want is to abort a baby. Then suddenly the parents’ rights are inviolable.
