Michelle Obama is a phenomena, she has managed to create her own look and pioneer young designers throwing them into design superstardom. And for her latest style outing the First Lady was seen wearing a British designer.
Michelle wore a gorgeous Spring/Summer 09 Basso & Brooke top to the White House Evening of Poetry and Music. She teamed her gorgeous top with a pair of white Maison Martin Margiela cropped trousers along with some statement silver shoes.
It is exciting to see her wearing Basso & Brooke who are a fabulous design duo but who have yet to gain the status of designers such as Matthew Williamson or Jonathan Saunders.
Unsurprisingly the designers behind her fab top were pretty excited, Basso & Brooke told Vogue.com:
We were amazed when we saw the picture, She is such a strong, stylish lady - redefining a womans wardrobe - and for her to select us is an honour. The evening was a music and poetry event, and we think it worked perfectly for that.
It was a great look, a perfect blend of dressy casual and fashion forward.
What is with the pirate pants?
The pants look like the same color as the background of the top.
I think she could have at least wore full-length pants.
Michelle urges graduates to "give back."
Eschew wealth, give back. We need "careers focused on lifting up our communities." The Obama administration has many grassroots organizers that have made a difference.
"You too can have this same transformative effect on the community . . . and our entire nation."
Victims all over the world "are looking to you for some sign of hope. "
"'Service [to the community] is the rent we pay for living it is the true measure, the only measure of our success.'"
uh.. and her husband commands the FBI, CIA, DHS . . . .
Laura was and is a classy hottie!!!
Heh... maybe. I'm a woman who is 6'1" myself, and I also am familiar with the challenges of finding decent clothes.
But heck, if I had her money and also her lack of fashion sense, for sure I'd use some of that money to hire people to dress me. There are various ways to at least somewhat camouflage less-than-perfect figure attributes.
The cropped pants look like she's waiting for a flood. At the very least, I'd pay people to help me not look so goofy.

Right.
And here she is wearing very, very expensive clothing, even accessories, all of the time.
Good for her, but she should be a little bit of an example.
hummmm patch work, not exactly a new idea.
Oh puke!
Maybe I am just seeing what is on the inside, but she is the ugliest First Lady I can remember.
Samantha O’Neill a fashion journalist based in London. She loves all things vintage, fashion and literary and also has a secret passion for pole dancing and burlesque.
she’s digging for clams later
I love patachwork myself. (Yeah, right).
She looks trashy in that outfit!
Anyone remember the British sit-com called.. Keeping up Appearances ?
Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Boo-Kay) .was snotty lady desperately trying to climb the social ladder and failing miserably .she was totally out of her league
She kept inviting guests over for her music and light refreshments.
For some reason, Michelle reminds me of her
Hey yourself girlfriend! Nice to see you. ;*}
Heh. I’m 5’ even and there are challenges there too! What amazes me is that with the proper clothing she could ROCK. My mom has a friend, an AA lady who is probably about the same size and height, complexion as MO. With her height and size, she can carry off more extreme patterns or draping and looks like a goddess doing it. She is just gorgeous, always. I’ll never slam another woman for a big tush or legs because face it, there’s only so much you can do about your body type and MO isn’t fat. But with her height, her toned upper body and all the resources (ie designers and $$) she could look so great. Tall women can carry off so much more than us short ones (sigh) if only I had her clothing budget...
At least LT accomplished something in his career. What has “she” done?
Don’t sweat it, ktscarlett66 (if you know what I mean). ;-)
