It is abundantly clear that the only thing the CIA has done well for a long time now, is guard it’s own institutional interests. The Democrats were fools indeed to think that the same institution that so ruthlessly waged bureaucratic guerilla warfare against the GWB administration would allow a Dem-led congress to replay the hits from the seventies (Church committee, et al) and march them up the Hill for a televised auto-da-fe. The real question is how did the MSM suddenly decide to pick up the ball? The Thursday press pack attack almost looks like a Ceaucescu moment for Madame Speaker. I’m guessing it was talk radio and Fox news that forced them to stop ignoring the issue of Pelosi and co.’s connivance.

It is clear that those Dem congresscritters manhandled over the years by Pelosi have decided that now is the time for payback and it looks more and more like Obama has also concluded that a new House Speaker might not be a bad idea.

Make no mistake, this fish rotted from the head on down. Obama was behind the whole thing from the beginning. He wanted former Bush staffers persecuted to the max, he just thought he could set events in motion and push them along with strategic nudges without having to take any responsibility for events. Ostentatiously sending the issue to Eric Holder, releasing memos, trying to release photos, it was his idea from the beginning. However, it was up to the Dems on the Hill to do his actual dirty work and it has blown up in their faces big time. Pelosi IS going to go down, not for any lofty reasons, but because Steny Hoyer, Jane Harman and co. smell her blood in the water and want to settle some scores.

Obama, meanwhile is suffering a rocky learning curve that can be summed up in that being an activist/agitator and partisan legislator is a whole hell of a lot easier than being in charge and having to assume executive responsibility. He can no longer indulge his leftist wet dreams and not have messy consequences sticking to him in the morning.

A very perceptive post indeed.

I would only add thought that the instigator of all of this kerfuffle might well have been George Soros. It appears that Obama sought to appease the MoveOn.org wing of the party and the matter simply spun out of control. That is why, as I understand it, after a very lengthy meeting in which all parties fared their views including the director of the CIA who opposed the release of the memoranda, Obama resolved not to release the memoranda. Thereafter, he was contacted by George Soros, or on his behalf, and reversed his field and announced that the memoranda would be released and that administration officials might be prosecuted.

Enter Dick Cheney and the matter began to spin out of the control of the administration. As Nancy Pelosi made revelations which increasingly made her vulnerable, would-be speakers of the house began to smell blood in the water. It is not clear whether Soros & Co. threw chum into those waters to roil them all the more in order to unseat Pelosi. It is not clear how the administration might have interacted. But I have no doubt, you are right, once the snake pit was prodded awake, the serpents were biting each other.

The CIA thought it had a deal with the Democrats, the agency would leak against the Republicans and the Democrats would permit the culture of the CIA to ripen without exposure to oversight. The appointment of Pinetta was a token of how the deal was to work. Pelosi was so inept that she, perhaps unconsciously, broke the deal.

I depart company with your analysis in that I believe that Pelosi might successfully have stonewalled Fox and talk radio but the MSM was evidently given a green light to go after her. The agents who delivered the message might well have been apparatchiks in the administration but the orders could very well have originated with George Soros. I also believe that Steny Hoyer and the rest of them must have been given a green light, I believe by Soros.

The reason I think that Soros has so much power is because he literally controls the purse. It is not just his own money which he controls but he has contrived to get most of the funds going to the 527s funneled through his apparatus. Between the purse and the brownshirts in MoveOn.org, it would take a very brave Democrat indeed to break ranks.

So I think that Pelosi is being dismantled and filleted as you do. Who is behind the curtain?
