Pelosi: C.I.A. Misled Congress Over Waterboarding (Pelosi: lie, version 7)
NYT ^ | 5/14/09 | Carl Hulse AND Brian Knowlton

Under fire from Republicans for what she knew about harsh questioning of terror detainees, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday acknowledged that she had learned as early as 2003 that the C.I.A. had subjected suspects to waterboarding.

At a tense press conference, Ms. Pelosi said for the first time that a staff member alerted her in February 2003 that top lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee had been briefed on the use of tough interrogation methods on terror suspects.

But she said the fact that she did not speak out at the time due to secrecy rules did not make her complicit in any abuse of detainees. She accused the C.I.A. and Bush administration of lying to Congress about what was actually transpiring with the detainees.

“I am saying that the C.I.A. was misleading the Congress and at the same the administration was misleading the Congress on weapons of mass destruction,” Ms. Pelosi said.

Republicans immediately took issue with the speaker’s comments, saying that she was in essence blaming the intelligence professionals for misleading her.

“The speaker’s comments continue to raise more questions than provide answers,” said Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the House Republican leader.

My guess...late 60s. A friend of mine worked on former Mayor Jane Byrne’s face years ago. However, she never followed his instructions to quit drinking and smoking, which can have adverse effects just after cosmetic surgery. Ol’ Nan could be suffering from the same thing.

"On Friday, Congressional Republicans, citing a new accounting that showed some top Democrats taking part in briefings on harsh methods in 2002, had accused Democrats of full complicity in approving the Bush administration’s brutal interrogations."

Atta way, NY Times. Calling 'em right down the middle, eh?

Well someone on our side is apparently holding Pelosi’s feet to the fire over this.

Not just our side, there's someone else in the wings. Not saying who, but remember there can only be ONE Queen Bee...

Didn’t this entire episode begin b/c she lied about knowing? You’d think she’d cut her loses and just shut up. It looks like she’s provoking round 2 w/ the CIA.

Pelosi lied people died..........

Pelosi lied, people got their faces wet...

In my opinion, the R's need to float some pictures of some real torture. Knowing that no service would publish them, but I hear of this thing called the 'internet'. Something to do with Al Gore...

what she knew about harsh questioning of terror detainees

Harsh questioning is what the principal of the school did when I skipped class.

“Nancy Pelosi accused a yet unidentified CIA briefer of lying to her in a late 2002 briefing on EIT’s. That briefing took place months after we now know that Abu Zubaydah was in fact waterboarded. Pelosi claims that the briefing only said that waterboarding was found to be legal and the CIA was thinking of using it.”

So, who was the director of the CIA from 9/11 to 2004?

George J. Tenet 1997–2004 was the director of CIA.

Tenet was appointed by President Clinton and approved by Congress. Tenet became the CIA director in August of 1997.

So, Pelosi is now saying that George Tenet lied to her or ordered his congressional briefers to lie to Nancy.
