My guess is that it's CYA so if Israel does attack, Øbam-bam can satisfy his Saudi-smoochy-smoochy-ring handlers who really do want Israel to bomb the Shiite out of Iran. Just a guess.

He been doing that recently. Two instances of us denying Israel access to weapons that would make an attack on Iran less of a lethal proposition for Israeli pilots.
