US President Barack Obama has changed his mind and will now attempt to block the publication of photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers.
The US government had previously said it would not fight a court ruling ordering the release of the pictures.
Mr Obama now believes the release of the photos would make the job of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan more difficult, White House officials said.
The pictures were due to be released by 28 May, according to the court ruling.

The need to track down and court-martial every solider that took one of those picture, after they insert his camera in the proper holder.
Maybe he’s getting the message that throwing everybody on his side under the bus is probably a bad idea. Throwing the CIA/miltary/etc. under the bus is a really bad idea for a would-be dictator.
Showing pictures or videos of POW’s is a criminal offense according to the Geneva Convention. If he had proceeded we could have witnessed him being charged in the world court for war crimes.
I’m sure that someone was going to bring the charge or he wouldn’t have changed his mind.
Funny, on the big issues where Obama really beat Bush up on, Obama seems to be moving closer and closer to Bush on.

It has nothing to do with sanity. He’s losing the war in Afghanistan, and he knows he’s going to need intelligence. He may have gone too far out already against ‘torture’, but between the nukes in Pakistan being up for grabs, and the fact that he’s losing in Afghanistan, he’s covering his ass.
He owns both issues.
