US President Barack Obama has changed his mind and will now attempt to block the publication of photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers.
The US government had previously said it would not fight a court ruling ordering the release of the pictures.
Mr Obama now believes the release of the photos would make the job of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan more difficult, White House officials said.
The pictures were due to be released by 28 May, according to the court ruling.

Yo bad Bush did not do this, if he could have that is, the dems would have ‘outed’ him anyways.
vaudine
No matter what he says now.
Just the fact that he wanted to show them says it all.
I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE to know what’s stuck in that ‘u-bend’ (and what’s backed up behind it). All will be revealed.......eventually.
I dunno. But the writers for ‘24’ have their next season’s plot right in front of them!
Oh my word, most insightful post of the year. V’s wife.
I was extremely relieved to hear that Obama has changed his mind. However, I believe it was for political purposes, not for honorable ones.
That chicago thug deserves no thanks.
Obama did not do this for the ‘troops’. This is all about ‘him’ one way or another.......not our troops. Obama is a malignant narcissist. It’s an incurable psychological state.
I can't defend this. I got after people recently for criticizing Obama on something, but I guess we all have our breaking point. I'm simply devastated about this most recent development. Sh*t, I can't stop crying. All the crying and agonizing for the past 6 years about what we did and were doing in Iraq means absolutely nothing. If President Obama will not restore American’s honor, who in the f*ck will? Jesus, what a dark day. Again, I can't defend this sh*t. This is where I get off the Obama love train.
... it's f*cking disgusting for obama to be putting his tail between his legs for his military-industrial complex masters so quickly. It's very unbelievably uncle tom-ish of him.
cowardice, that's what. Obama is becoming another disappointment.
Apparently "transparency" only applies when the news is good.
no wonder we are all in a colossal mess. Hiding the truth is what got us here... dumb move. Have fun getting people to believe you for your next election. I won't lie for you.... or anyone else.
I can almost hear Obama now - "It depends on what your definition of change is..." The good news is that with so much staying the same, he can run again as the candidate for change!
Those children haven’t a clue about America or their own freedom. Hand it to somebody and it’s taken for granted.
If the photos really show abuses, I’m glad they won’t be shown. However, I’m not so sure they do. I think this may have all been a clever ploy.
He claimed these photos show that the abuse at Abu Ghraib wasn’t an isolated incident as Bush claimed it was. Now everyone is accepting that as fact, and there are no photos shown to prove it.
Millions of democrats across the country are crying now without a doubt.
Personally I wouldn’t trust that lying POS 0boooooombashiite on anything, including the “U” turn on releasing the photos. I fully doubt the photos would ever compare in brutality to what 0booooombo’s fellow muzzies do when they use hot irons & blow torches to scorch their victims. I will never trust that usurper sonofabitch under any circumstance. He is pure unadulterated evil!!!
#148 Dontcha just love it. I guess next time they need to ask what the change is. LMAO
You're right...the photos would prove he's lying. If you listened to him yesterday, he even ADMITTED they don't show as much "abuse" as Abu Ghraib.
I agree, this was a set-up from the beginning...and as usual, our gang fell for it.
sorry folks, but this is just to cover his ass when the ACLU appeals and wins and the photos are released.
The Uno can say, “well I tried to stop them, don’t be mad at me”
