I'm not judging, as you put it. I'm making an observation and drawing a conclusion based on science, not faith. Incidentally, the AMA believed that homosexuality was a "disorder" long before I did; An opinion it held until the early '70's.
Darwin tells us that animals' behavior patterns evolve to ensure the survival of the species. As procreation is the most basic survival mechanism, it makes no evolutionary sense to behave in a manner that would guarantee your extinction, not survival. The only logical conclusion to draw, is if your procreation instincts are somehow compromised, then something has indeed gone wrong. Science, not faith.
Incidentally, we should not ridicule or abuse gays. But, we should research the reasons for their behavior so that we may be able to treat them and heal them, not to enable them.
The flaw in your reasoning is that it oversimplifies modern evolutionary theory. This is a great starting point on the subject of homosexuality and evolution: http://www.adherents.com/misc/paradoxEvolution.html Trust me, it’s a long read, but it is more than worth it.
What I find curious is that you emphasize that you are a man of science, not faith, yet you reject the rational minds of today in favor of the wisdom of times gone by. Science and medicine advance. Long gone are the days of female hysteria, leeches, and shock treatments. I would find your position much more understandable if you were a creationist or something similar, but as it is, I’m puzzled.
And on a somewhat related note, are you an atheist?
