Only to a Bushbot, an idiot, or a brainwashed Party Firster would it make sense to send our armed forces abroad while leaving our border with Mexico wide open and uncontrolled, and even worse, failing to enforce immigration law...and then proclaim that the U.S. is "safe."

I know her personally and she is none of those.

you DID hijack the thread by putting spin on what she originally said. While I agree with you about illegal immigration and its impact on this country, you owe KLT a HUGE apology.

Do you have the integrity to offer one?

I will apologize for ranting when KLT agrees to apologize for her kneejerk accusation, in defense of the Bush years, that I am "a NOBAMA fan" at #47.

I agree with sickoflibs at #51 that

The circle the wagons around the GWB theme popularity has really weakened around here and it's about time. It's not Bush OR Obama, It's Bush AND Obama.

KLT, at #47, suggested that if I were not "a NOBAMA fan," I

would have realized how much better we had it under Bush with all his faults.

Now, frankly, I voted--as a fresh-faced young voter in 2004--for Bush1, and at that time I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you. But, five years later, I must entirely disagree. To say that Bush kept this country "safe" while leaving the southern border wide open is silly. By offering amnesty to tens of millions of unlawfully present foreign nationals, Bush and other establishment Republicans offered inducements to violate the rule of law. Furthermore, to draw attention to the Obama "Socialism" now while ignoring the reality that Bush's administration set the stage for such an expansion of Big Government--whether through NCLB, Medicare Part D, or TARP--is folly.

The problem is not just Obama, but it's Bush too. Both the Republicans (well, the majority of them) and the Democrats have utterly betrayed these United States and it's high time that conservatives come to their senses and realize such a reality. This is not about just Republicans, or just Democrats, nor is it a plea to go third-party, as KLT suggested at #60.

I will not pine for the days of Bush, because they sucked too. Nor will I resort to supporting "the lesser of two evils"--because in the end the "lesser" is still evil. [Plus, anyone who follows that sort of relativistic approach will ultimately support just about anything.] I (and most voters probably agree) don't want someone who is just better; I want someone who is actually and reasonably conservative and who actually says what they mean and means what they say. Period.

1 No, I did not vote for Obama in 2008.
