Rising Unemployment Rate Undermines Obama's Goal to Create 3.5M Jobs
FOXNEWS ^ | May 09, 2009 | FOXNEWS

President Obama has vowed to create 3.5 million jobs by 2010.

To reach his 3.5 million-jobs goal, Obama needs at least 138.6 million people employed by next year, leaving him with a job deficit of nearly 6.2 million jobs, according to the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

"Policies like higher tax rates on small businesses, sustained massive budget deficits, doubling the national debt (and the consequent upward pressure on interest rates) and the building threats of government meddling in companies are eroding the foundations of the economy today and for the future," he said.

The White House did not respond to an e-mail seeking an interview for this story.

Obama has claimed that his stimulus package has already saved or created more than 150,000 jobs. But the U.S. economy has lost more than 2 million jobs since he took office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, seeming to undercut Obama's claim.

But it's hard to tell exactly where Obama's record stands -- or where he thinks it stands -- because the White House has not yet announced how it intends to count jobs created by the stimulus bill. Obama's number is based on a job-counting formula that his economists have developed but have not made public.

Whatever the formula, economists who study job creation say it will require some creative math. That's because Obama has lumped "jobs saved" in with "jobs created." Even economists for organizations that stand to benefit from the stimulus concede it probably is impossible to estimate saved jobs because that would require calculating a hypothetical: how many people would have lost their jobs without the stimulus.

So all them polls where the media liked to tell us 'Americans thought Democrats were better for the economy' before the election are wrong, the Obama & Democrat Stimulus bill is DOA, but they'll still try to ruin the free market trying to pay for the Democrat's bad judgment

I love the line about “saving” jobs. It’s great to have category one can assign any number to without providing the slightest bit of information to verify.

Don't worry, if his numbers can't add up, (And they don't.) they will just blame Bush and those filthy Republicans.

MAObama will get full heroic credit no matter what happens

Well, to be fair to Obama, he hasn't started hiring for his "domestic security force" yet.

When there are enough people unemployed, he'll be able to pack 'em in.

Don't let a good crisis go to waste, you know.

“ruin the free market trying to pay for the Democrat's bad judgment”

Kind of sums up the first 100 days of the Obama administration rather nicely.

You can’t miss the nuance. He said create or “save” 3.5 million. The save remark was the type of thing you would expect of a slithering politician; not a transformational leader. The economy could loss 6 million jobs, but Obama could say we would have actually lost 10 million if it weren’t for my intervention. But alas, nobody in the media called him on his BS remark, so it goes unnoticed with all of his other fallen trees of Obamaism in his unchanged forest.

For the last time, the Fed.gov DOES NOT create jobs! All it can do is TAKE CREDIT for them!

Or if only 3.5 million jobs remain for the entire country he can still say, “Ive saved 3.5 million jobs!”

Exactly. This is the type of hyperbole that the media usually loves to throw right back at the face of the politician who pukes it up, but just not Obama. Gibbs should have been tap dancing for 20 minutes over this remark.

The issue is, Obama can throw out what ever number/s he wants without accountability.

The facts are that studies show, that for every “green” job “created”, 3 regular high paying jobs are lost.

Obama is only listing the new jobs his new programs and schemes may create. there is NO accounting being made for those 6.2 million regular jobs that his “green” (watermelon) jobs or economy killing legislation eliminates.

Which is why he makes the claim, and takes credit for having “already” created 150,000 new jobs. The 3.5 million lost jobs already lost, are Bush's fault don't you know.

One job, 3 million jobs, or no jobs... it’s irrelevant. This is a throw away line.

No problem.

He’ll just create 3.5 million temporary jobs for the US Census. Those temporary jobs will last 25 years and will carry an automatic federal pension.

Problem solved, commie style.

Bet on it, the vast majority of new jobs will go to community organizer types such as ACORN and urban areas. Obama’s goal is to employ illiterates who can work in government and serve in his domestic security squad aka, brown shirts, Stasi, KGB.

All hail Ceasar!

Headline error. Should read "REALITY Undermines Obama's Goal to Create 3.5M Jobs"

. . . the White House has not yet announced how it intends to count jobs created by the stimulus bill.
Maybe they should try Voodoo Online.

Obama's lucky.

No matter how stupid or transparently false his administration's claims are, the MSM and New York Times will buy it... hook line and sinker.

Must be nice being the teacher's pet.
