"Panic buying" has gun shop owners reporting a run on ammunition.
"A year ago it was very simple. One phone call to various distributors and they would send me the ammo I needed. Today, there isn't anything available. Handgun ammo, .22 rounds, there's very little," said Brian Stedman of S & S Taxidermy in Springville.
Gun enthusiasts attribute the ammunition shortage to a fear the Obama administration is going to pass stricter gun laws or impose taxes on weapons and ammo.
"They're hoarding it. If I had 100 cases of ammunition right now, I probably wouldn't have it for much more than a week, if that," said Dennis Deasy of the Niagara Gun Range in North Tonawanda.
Ammunition is selling out almost as fast as shops can get shipments, if they can at all.

I’m doing my part to stimulate the economy!
Bought 4 more boxes of .38 Special today. $109. Ouch.
He'll do both, of course.
As a guy on another forum said: "if my house catches fire, stay way back. It ain't safe with the amount of ammo in the basement!"
New York state is racing to beat Bambi to the punch and pass worse laws.
Of course, NY also has Chuckles Schumer who seems to think the Bill of Righs Amendment 2 is applicable only by geographic location.
I’d like to tell him he needs to renew his Free Speech license, his due process license.. etc etc.
I’m buying all I can find. If I see a box or 3 of 5.56, 9mm, .45ACP, and .308 I buy it. It’s nearly impossible to find any bulk ammo right now.
The local LEO from a neighboring town called our only country store to see if they had a certain type of ammo.Sold out.Shortage is an understatement.
Off Topic,Jackson the 1lb 9 oz boy that was born awhile back weighs in at 9lbs.,Thanks for the prayers.
Not sure what that is, but this is BLOAT, and I am!
Ammo.....it’s the new currency.
There are also several other good reasons why everyone is stocking up on ammo:
· They've bought a bunch of nice new guns and now need the bullets to put in them.
· They don't feel safe (the economy, potential terrorism, natural disaster, disease whatever) in today's America and want to have the means to protect themselves and their families.
· They feel they may have to actually use their guns and ammo in real world situations against foreign and/or domestic enemies in the event of a WW III, a Civil War II, societal breakdown et al.
All of this demand for weapons and ammo is one of the few silver linings in the Oba-mao dark cloud. It will create a lot of converts, as new people "clinging to their guns" will now "have skin in the game."

And Buffalo is LIBERAL.
I’m seeing some self defense ammo at local stores. Afraid to ask the cost. What I’m not seeing is plinking or paractice ammo (Roundnose, FMJ’s, etc.).
I'm the opposite. I'm mainly in the hunt for plinking stuff, but if I see good self defense ammo, I buy that too! I wonder what the better 5.56 is for defensive situations. Are the heavier rounds better than the standard 55 grain plinking ammo? Someone mentioned 5.56 with steel cores as being better, but said they are hard to come by.
He and I are both on the hunt for more 9mm & .40 S&W to horde. .22 LR is still in ample supply.
“Each year U.S. ammo manufacturers make about 8 billion rounds, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry. Current production data won’t be in until late May, but the foundation expects the numbers to be way up.
“In order to keep up with demand for ammunition, manufacturers are working at full capacity, 24-7,” says Ted Novin, an NSSF spokesman. “Currently demand for ammunition is outpacing supply.””

That's not the reason we are 'hoarding' it.
