The small arms fire fell well short of the U.S. ship which speeded up to evade the skiffs.

What? Are we becoming the British Navy now? Running away from pirates! What ever happened to, "I have not yet begun to fight?" Hey Navy,Be all you CAN be!

What ignorant A-hole gave our brave naval fleet orders to run like little school girls when fired upon? Gee, I wonder...

This was the right move for the tanker to make, they’re not warships and dont handle like one in any case, so very easy to get swarmed. Going to full power and running away was the right call, and anyone who has spent any time whatsoever looking at naval tactics or been in an Ops Room would tell you the same thing.

Has Obama apologized yet for our evading capture?

I'm sure Obama will be asked about this new "cut and run" policy at his next WH press conference.
Oh, and the question will come from MSNBC.//sarc off

Blow these slugs out of the water. Keep doing it until there aren’t any more pirates.

“The USNS Lewis and Clark was chased for about an hour on Wednesday morning by two pirates skiffs”

And the national humiliation continues... thanks, zer0.

Not to nitpick, but shouldn't the term be 'sped up'?

Oh, and any ship that plys the waters off Somolia should automatically be armed, no if, ands or buts about it.

What's this called? The "tuck tail and run" maneuver? We are SO doomed as a nation.

Brings to mind this scene in “The Longest Day”:

Major General Gunther Blumentritt: [in German] “This is history. We are living an historical moment. We are going to lose the war because our glorious Führer has taken a sleeping pill and is not to be awakened. Sometimes I wonder which side God is on.”

I guess our armed forces have to hope The One never sleeps.

Well, it’s a supply ship, not a combat ship. But if they were being attacked by small arms, then you’d think they could shoot back even as they kept their distance.

I suspect we are back to the Obama Rules of Engagement: “Shooting back at pirates even in self defense ist verboten.”

WTF is going on in the world when the US Navy speeds away from pirates firing on one of our ships??!!

I don’t know how much more I can take before I move to a deserted island!
