Isn't London the birth place of the "soapbox speech"? As in "get off your soapbox" because of the tradition Londoners had of standing on soapboxes in some town square and giving impromptu speeches?

As a matter of fact, I just looked up soapbox on wikipedia and I wasn't far off the mark. Check it out:

“It won’t be long before Obama’s thought police will ban him here. We all will be next.”

I believe you are correct. Who will be left to write the history of what happened to freedom?

“Darn! And I was just planning a trip to England for their superior dental work and cuisine,”

God, is that all he can manage? Two of the oldest, lamest cliches in the book?

And that is what passes for wit in his mind? Pathetic.

Indeed. Did you catch Savages’s first hour from yesterday? It’s an absolute masterpiece of sarcasm and satire with his pretending to love Obama(or Maobama as he calls him)-

Just shut up. And by the way, great job you people have done over there. By being bigger wusses than the French, you have let your country get away from you, overrun by muslims who want to cut your throat. Nice work.

“This the same Jacqui Smith whose husband was getting porn and charging it to the government.”

“You mean taxpayer funded porn isn’t already being provided to all Britons by their socialist government?”

You got me. I forgot about the BBC.

If you follow the fortunes of the current UK socialist government, you will find that they are probably going to get their wish granted. It is one scandal after another, one mistake after another, and weakness, weakness, weakness.
Smarty pants Blair saw it coming and bailed out. Now Brown will go down in flames because there is no fixed term for a government - only a 5 year maximum. Brown’s reputation is low, the goverment’s is low and the polls show the Conservatives in the popular lead.

If he were still alive, I have no doubt that Winston Churchill would be on Ms. Smith's list as well. He was an outspoken opponent of tyrants and dictators off all sorts and his 'hate-speech' toward them would certainly offend the most politically correct lady.

All the stories have been told
Of kings and days of old,
But there’s no England now.
All the wars that were won and lost
Somehow don’t seem to matter very much anymore.
All the lies we were told,
All the lies of the people running round,
They’re castles have burned.
Now I see change,
But inside we’re the same as we ever were.

Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Living this way, each day is a dream.
What am I, what are we supposed to do?
Living on a thin line,
Tell me now, what are we supposed to do?

I suppose it's possible that one or two have. Hasn't rubbed off on the rest though.

The Magna Carta actually DOES put forth freedoms and liberties granted to all English, in direct contravention of the Islamic Fundamentalist path that England is now taking...

Savage was referring to THAT...

But nothing in the Magna Carta guarantees freedom of speech, which Savage sees as being taken from him. So his reference to the Magna Carta is inappropriate.

He was implying that a country which would draft a document which would secure freedoms of ANY nature would be insane to start limiting freedoms once considered acceptable—all in the name of Islamic Fundamentalist influence.

The Magna Carta was the world’s first “Bill of Rights”, as it were. It’s from that, that we based our own Bill of Rights. I think that was the reference.

The soapbox speeches were/are (last time I was there) done on the corner in Hyde Park. Nowadays the people who do it are generally regarded as nuts. I suppose you have to parade around in kefiyehs, carrying placards that say “Death to the UK” in order to get your message across.

My letter to the fascist Ms. Smith: Dear Ms.

A note of outrage from across the pond. Your reckless inclusion of Michael Savage in the list of banned peoples has awakened a sleeping giant. Fascism has clearly overwrought your once great nation and will be the very end of England as we know it. No nation lead by feckless fascists such as yourself can survive in a free world. I will instruct my business associates, family and friends to BOYCOTT the bloody, rain and beer soaked, terrorist conquered so called, United Kingdom at once and for all time until you have made a direct and public apology for your defamation of Michael Savage, a beacon of free speech and who is your intellectual superior. You would be better suited to sling bangers and mash at your local coffee shop. If ever there were a broad who brings shame to womanhood and decency it is you. You are a communist, a fascist and an enemy of the people of the United States. I will encourage and instruct my elected representatives to deal swiftly with you and to cut the purse strings that have created the wretched, dependent welfare state know as England. I am outraged and have a long memory.
