Justus takes bus to Iowa where same-sex marriage is legal to marry partner (Missouri State Senator)

Missouri state Sen. Jolie Justus of Kansas City on Friday boarded a bus for Iowa where same-sex marriage is legal to wed her partner of nearly two years, the Democratic senator said Sunday.

Justus said she married Shonda Garrison of mid-Missouri at a ceremony in Iowa City.

The two were one of 17 couples mostly from the St. Louis area that took advantage of the recent Iowa Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in the Hawkeye State. Missouri does not recognize same-sex marriages, meaning that the marriage carries no legal weight back home in Kansas City.

The couples boarded a bus early Friday morning to make the trek to Iowa. Also on the bus were clergy members who came along to perform the ceremonies.

Justus, 38, said Friday was one of the best days of her life, but it also was bittersweet because of the marriage's non-standing in Missouri.

"We felt, though, that it was important that we be able to make that commitment to each other," Justus said. "My hope is that someday marriage will be recognized by Missouri and federally."

“My sympathies to you and the sane minority in that district.”

I’m hoping against all hope that it will change soon. The Republican part in this county is made up a large herd of RINOs that has basically conceded that it will be a minority in this county.

I have to totally agree. Though she’s not as much of waste of a good looking woman as Portia de Rossi is.

Judging from this photo, it’s obvious she’s the female. But that shouldn’t be a surprise since she is kind of attractive. At least 1000X more than her new wife.

She’s not bad-lookin’, I’ll grant you, but I wouldn’t care to keep her permanently either. Maybe California?

>>>When does the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution kick in? We need a consitutional amendment and soon.

It kicks in when the US Supreme Court rules on the issue, probably in the next two or three Court sessions. The gay marriage advocates have been patiently waiting for the issue to mature, in terms of general growing public support and state legislative approval in multiple states. Even with conservative justices, the Clause has sufficient clarity that no other result can occur then nationwide recognition of out of state legal gay marriages.

As you say, the only way to stop this is a new Constitutional amendment specific to marriage. That ship sailed I think. This fight is a dead end.

I think this broad has just told us what this is really all about. These twits don't care about being "married". They care about shoving it in our faces.

They want to force themselves into our schools, entertainment, and churches--only because they can and they feel powerful.

We need it in the US Constitution but won’t get it any time soon with the congress we have yet.

We couldn't get anywhere near a Constitutional amendment with any congress we had. It's a foregone conclusion, in my opinion, that we've seen the most conservative congresses that we'll ever see - only RINO's and liberals in the future - unless a major revolution occurs, and that's not likely to be a purely "conservative" revolution.

The only other hope I see on the horizon is a real spiritual awakening and true, spirit-wrought Christian revival - which would restore much of the lost innocence of conscience that can't be realized any other way. But I can't see that we even want this.

"I have to totally agree. Though she’s not as much of waste of a good looking woman as Portia de Rossi is."

Why in the wide-world-of-sports do women, esp the attractive ones, choose their own ilk for partners? It must be the same "virus" that causes liberalism.

Sad story. This “couple” is going to last a year or two at most before the “female” decides the “femalemale” isn't what she was looking for after all. Then there is the inevitable blaming, perhaps episodes of violence, a final separation, followed, of course, by the tell-all book. I think this country will have to live through a period of increasingly seeing the bad effects of fornication on society before there can be an effective correction. God help the children. Our Constitution was written by and for a Christian people. I don't think real freedom and real justice can be recovered until we are a Christian nation again, if ever.
