Thanks for posting this. I sometimes get the impression that Freerepublic is Republican before conservative. This clarifies things nicely.
FR is not Republican before conservative, but a lot closer to Republican than any other party that has a chance of winning. As tantalizing as it may be, a third party route would only split the conservative vote and make it even easier for the Demonrats to win. And they already have the huge, built-in advantage of the people’s ignorance.
Oh, make no mistake, the RNC and various GOP National organizations have their operatives here trying to whip up support for the party over Conservative principles.
Clear giveaways are those posts which tell us that so-and-so Conservative candidate is "unelectable" and that instead we should support so-and-so "electable" RINO candidate, or otherwise blasts us for being "purists" or "unrealistic."
The McCain threads AFTER he got the GOP nomination but BEFORE he selected Sarah Palin as his running mate are full of those types of posts.
Probably because we just came out of the general election season, in which you have to deal with the crap you are handed, either McBama or O'Bambi. Both sucked, but one sucked a little bit less. As Winston Churchill said: In war as in life, it is often necessary when some cherished scheme has failed, to take up the best alternative open, and if so, it is folly not to work for it with all your might.
