Specter: GOP moved 'far to the right' By: Mike Allen May 3, 2009 09:55 AM EST
Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) said Sunday in his first TV interview since becoming a Democrat last week he had not promised to be a loyal Democrat and would lead a filibuster against his new party if he felt strongly enough about an issue.
Specter told David Gregory on NBCs Meet the Press that he had determined with polls and a lot of personal contact that his reelection prospects as a Republican were bleak.
But he added: Theres more than being reelected here. Theres the factor of principle. The Republican Party has gone far to the right since I joined it under Reagans big tent. In recent times, I have diverged materially from the Republican line As the picture has evolved, I felt a lot more comfortable as a matter of principle with Democrats than Republicans.
Specter heatedly denied a Wall Street Journal report that he had told the White House that he would be a loyal Democrat.
I have shown, repeatedly, my independence willing to cross party lines when I thought the interests of the American people and Pennsylvania required it, Specter said. If I see that there are other issues where I feel as a matter of conscience, I will continue a filibuster against legislation.

He just knew he was behind in the polls, and now he says this.
I can’t wait until he, along with Snow and Collins, get defeated in their next election.
It did. The very moment Specter left.
Huh, I missed that. When did that happen?
More from “both sides of his mouth” Specter.
HUH? Too far to the right?
Oh, please.
And the Democrat Party hasn’t moved far to the left?
“It did. The very moment Specter left.”
In sports we call that “addition by subtraction”.
As opposed to him moving to the far left?????????????? I dont’ think so. He’s out to lunch.
>> GOP moved ‘far to the right’<<
I think I would have noticed it if that had happened... :(
Memo to Arlen: It wasn’t the party that moved to the right, it was you who moved to the left, you dumbass!
When Specter says the GOP moved to the right, he means the Republican constituents don’t like him.
Washington is full of duplicitous bastards. Arlen is one of the better examples.
In the words of Charles Krauthammer, Specter is an “Unprincipled hack”.
Hey Specter, there is a thing called relative motion.....
.....when you moved too far to the left, it appeared to you and your RINO buddies that the Republicans moved "too far to the right".
Now that you are gone, and others like you might follow, the Republicans might stand a chance to move to the right where they belong.
This is why the Dems are going to throw Specter overboard next year, and they're going to do it much more ruthlessly than the Republicans.
The Republican Party is completely brain-dead for having supported this clown for 30 years.
He also said he wasn’t going to leave the Republican party. The only logical conclusion is that he cannot be believed; thus, the party has not moved to the right.
“GOP moved far to the right”????

I don’t know what the senator could be smoking. The GOP just got through with nominating McCain for goodness sakes.
They can't keep up with the democrat's in their sprint to the far pinko left and this is considered far right now?
