'Alien skull' spotted on Mars
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | 5/1/2009 | Unattributed

At first glance it looks like a rocky desert - but this image of the Mars landscape has got space-gazers talking.

An oddly shaped space boulder appears to show eye sockets and a nose leading to speculation it might be a Martian skull.

Internet forums are full of chatter about the picture, taken by a panoramic NASA camera known as Spirit.

One alien-spotter speculated: "The skull is 15 cm with binocular eyes 5 cm apart. The cranial capacity is approximately 1400 cc.

I knew I had seen that profile before. Can we get a copy of his birth certificate?

Looks like the Grays from Zeta Reticuli tried Mars first in their attempt to escape the degradation of their planet due to over-exploitation of the environment. No doubt they’re finding things on Earth more satisfactory, although, by all accounts, they’re not entirely happy with what we’re doing ecologically, either. Possibly the hybridization program to introduce their own genes into the population here will lead to greater sensitivity to the requirements of Nature.

Kool picture, but my humidifier, in the dark, looks like an alien skull, too. From another angle, it looks like a sweet little seal’s face.

Watch Carville claim it is an ancestor, and request funds for a mission to retrieve it, and a library on Mars...

The Face on Mars Trail Map
by Jim Garvin
Chief Scientist for NASA's Mars Exploration Program

Hike length is approximately 5.5 km or 3.6 miles one way, with a total elevation gain of nearly a thousand feet. Rating.... easy at start and midsection, with some very steep sections. Take plenty of water and oxygen.

NOTES: Starting to the SOUTH, away from the Face (hereafter FOM), the hike begins with a walk to the scree slopes at the south base of the feature, and then moves to the right (east) around the base of the FOM, and then to the NNW up to a breach in the feature about midway through the eastern middle. At this point there is a passage up the east flank of the feature, and the hike takes this route, passing between the two ridge-like prominences that outlie the eastern "battlements" of the FOM... then the hike traverses a smoother patch before it turns and skirts the summit region before finding a circuitous path to the upper reaches of the FOM (where there is a flat, bright circular patch about 100 m in diameter).
