Former governors Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush joined Congressman Eric Cantor to talk health care, the economy and national security at the first town hall meeting for the National Council for a New America on Saturday. But the group steered clear of abortion and same-sex marriage -- wedge issues that have led to the defection of moderates and independents.
"Listening to people can make a difference. We've got ideas on how we can help people get health insurance, how we can improve our schools, how we can make our economy strong today as well as down the road, how we can reform entitlements -- these are the people of America that have these ideas," Romney said. "We want to share these ideas with one another, and make sure that we're laying out a vision and a plan for America that makes our lives and the lives of our kids better."
Romney lost the Republican presidential primary to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the 2008 election. Since President Obama's election, the Republicans have come under danger of being locked into a filibuster-proof Senate.
Romney said that the focus needs to be return to the American people, rather than elected officials.
"America is great because of the American people, and the skill and ingenuity and entrepreneurship of America. That's what we happen to believe," Romney said of himself, Congressman Eric Cantor and former governor Jeb Bush. "I happen to think right now with regards to our economy, that we're risking doing the very thing to our economy that government did to our housing market. And that is borrow so much money that you create a bubble that ultimately collapses."
Enjoy your remarks reaganaut!
Everyone should see the remarks by yet another Romney supporter...one of those who continually whines about being "persecuted".
I have seen posts by others who have been the target of this particular Mittbot as have I.
This is excellent reason for considering Mitt for the POTUS candidate in 2012....NOT! "By your fruits...."
In fact it is by his collection of fruits here that I came to know all I ever needed to know about Myth “Arlen Specter II” Romney...
Your the one who post all of the anti OPEN LDS threads!
Well, not a lot of figuring required to reach the conclusion that "he knows so much better" than you. (Hope your double-wide didn't get too broken up in that nasty weather yesterday)
What’s a holly roller?
You really are from another world aren’t you....
Ok, I have a question and yes I am really interested.
Why do you support MR?
Please, when you answer go beyond he is a “good person” and has a “lovely family”.
Talk about why you are supporting him based on his political history present and passed.
Sounds like some one is looking for Romney to ride in on a white horse.
1. I post quite often on other topics than mormonism.
2. I do not post personal attacks against anyone, and
3. The mormon-related articles I post are either directly from LDS official sources highlighting mormon beliefs and practices or from news sources regarding mormon subjects.
Anyone is welcome to agree or disagree with what is in the articles I post, unlike the LDS ones that are "closed" to anyone but mormons...and THAT deary, is what chaps you...the fact that my "open" threads allow open and FREE discussion on FreeRepublic.
I freely admit to being "ex" mormon and "anti" mormonism, and would never vote for Mitt because he is both liberal AND mormon.
Anyone that clicks on that link provided by restornu should be prepared for getting an education in what mormonism is REALLY about.
By the same token, I suggest that anyone that may be interested should check out restornu's posting history. It's all there in black and white.
Do you also fantasize about him? Perhaps is a sexual way?
No, I did not "attribute superior qualities to Limbaugh". Perhaps you would care to cite where I did?
Do you also fantasize about him? Perhaps is a sexual way?
Brilliant. You hicks cannot resist taking matters to the lowest and most perverse denominator.
I hear you, and feel the same way about “compassionate conservatives”.
Sounds like some one is looking for Romney to ride in on a white horse.

And save the constitution which is “hanging by a thread” and thus fulfill (finally) a prophecy of Joseph Smith and force the Millennium (IIRC).

HEAR, HEAR!
I’ll second that. Mitt is a liberal based upon upon his record and his record is all that he has.
Re 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
We DON’T need a “New” America...
WE need our old America back...
Here are a few key parts of the “New” Old GOP platform (by no means complete - just a starting point):
“Operation WETBACK II” in which at least 50% of all illegal immigrants are immediately and summarily deported (in the hopes that the remaining 50% will get the message and a significant number leave voluntarily - saving us the money, time, and trouble.
Following this, all existing immigration laws will be enforced until further notice. Any bureaucrats protesting will be assumed incapable of fulfilling the requirements of their jobs, and thereby subject to immediate firing.
Our military will remain all volunteer, and will be fully funded.
All colleges and Universities declining to allow military recruiters on their campuses without harrassment or interference - will have half of their federal funding removed upon the first occurrence of harrassment, interference or refusal.
If there is a second occurrence, all remaining federal funding will be withdrawn for a period of four years, at which time they may reapply, if they agree not to harrass, interfere with, or refuse military recruiting.
Gays in the military?
Only until they retire, or are discovered.
Gay marriage? Not to be recognized or legally sanctioned by the state or Federal government.
Insurance benefits for gay “partners” - will be optional for private companies (not mandated by law), but will not be offered nor provided by state or Federal government.
Federal funding for abortions outside the US - will cease immediately, and in the US such funding will be cut in half. If individual states want to make up the difference - that is up to them. Federal funding of fetal stem cell research?
Borrowing Nancy Reagan’s phrase, “Just say ‘NO’!”
Guantanamo Bay detention facility shall be reopened, and shall house designated non-military “enemy combatants”. Extraordinary rendition shall also resume behind the scenes.
The GWOT shall be re-badged as a “war on terror”, and all terrorists will be referred to as such. As a matter of public policy, no euphemisms or candy-coating will be tolerated in describing enemies of America.
Islamic extremists will be called just that. The next jet hitting a building, anthrax flying out of an envelope, dirty bomb, or other bomb detonated on US soil - the next attack of any sort - will result in significant damage to Mecca, or Islamabad, or Teheran, or ...
Tinpot dictators from third-world sinkholes will not receive an official state visit from the POTUS, VP, any cabinet Secretary, nor any of their staff.
They might receive a visit from some members of the US military if they play their cards wrongly.
US Senators or Congressional Representatives who raise money for, deliver money or aid to... US designated terrorist countries or organizations will be investigated by the justice department, and when appropriate, brought up on charges of, or relating to - treason, and/or failure to uphold their oath of office to the American people to preserve, protect, and defend the US Constitution.
If convicted, they forfeit ALL of their benefits, including health/medical, investment and retirement programs, and they may never serve in an elected or appointed Federal government job again.
Open exploration will promptly commence for gas, as well as drilling, extracting, and refining of oil.
This will include Wyoming, Colorado oil shale, the Dakotas, the frozen wasteland known as ANWR, and the OCOS, including the Gulf of Alaska, Pacific coastline, all US territorial waters in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as a healthy portion of the international waters thereof, and the whole of the US’ Atlantic seaboard.
A brief and pointed study will be made - at limited cost, separating the contiguous United States into “power usage” zones or regions - even states in some cases.
The outcome of the study will be to determine how many megawatts of power must be generated to satisfy current electrical power consumption needs. Then, projections of needs some 25 years into the future will be made. As a matter of course, this will be increased upward by a factor of about 20% to account for error or unforeseen growth.
From this will be determined the number of new style nuclear reactors (such as the French have already) required to be built to satisfy that need.
Bids will be taken giving preference to US contractors, using a middle bid process to insure accurate (neither low nor high) bids to construct these facilities. In conjunction will be a project to modernize the immediate power grid surrounding each nuclear plant.
Addressing the grid (modernizing project) will be done in phases, and this will be funded by the marketing and sale of some type of utility bonds to be determined later.
Building new, state-of-the-art refineries, capable of handling ALL of our domestically produced oil, plus another 25% to 40% of crude oil volume produced in our hemisphere will insure that our new refineries have the ability to compete for refining business from outside the US.
(Refining of US produced oil will be first priority.)
The enormous amount of raw materiels for all of these undertakings (nuclear plants, drills, derricks, pipelines, pumps, cargo ships, rail lines and cars, refineries, etc) will kick-start demand for concrete, steel, advanced computers and electronics systems, and other related products.
Major US industries can come to life - steel, heavy equipment, automotive industries will be given initial preference for supplying fleet vehicles.
Small businesses will spring up like wildflowers after a spring rain to provide a myriad of contract and support services to the larger companies. Restaurants and catering, housing, everything that people need...
Most needed of all will be PEOPLE. American people, ready and willing to work and make living wages (and then some).
They will ALL have CHEAP, PLENTIFUL, RELIABLE power,
and affordable, reliable, domestically produced oil.
At the same time, we need to institute a flat tax rate. Twelve percent corporate tax at the Federal level, and ten percent personal income tax.
This will guarantee that business has an incentive to DO BUSINESS in America, and individuals will have more of their own money to spend.
No “estate” taxes - period, and capital gains will be severely reduced or eliminated.
There will be enough work for everyone
Everyone who works will earn enough to be able to afford to work, to live, to raise families and go on whatever vacations they want to - wherever they want.
In their sports cars, minivans, pickups, luxury sedans, family SUVs, or on a jet...
That’s the American dream...that’s the America we need to bring back to life in pursuit of that dream.
That’s my Conservative Republican “manifesto”
Somehow, I doubt that Romney has the guts, honesty or the management skills to go after these things. Jeb - I don’t know
...Ummmm - I think that they work in florists’ shops, making those Christmas wreaths for people’s front doors
...gettin’ the holly all rolled up, nice and round.
You know - holly rollers!
You can recognize them easily - they’re the ones with bandages all over their thumbs and fingers. They just won’t outsource, for some reason - and they refuse to wear “Mitt”-ens!
