Swaying to the LEFT, or to the RIGHT? ;)

Yep!

It actually was centered in Malibu, according to the earthquake map. Nothing big, but yes, the area makes me stop and watch more carefully. I think any of us who lived through the Northridge take second notice.

That was a little one... kind of short... a little rattling.
The vertical blinds and the chandelier hardly even moved.

I was 70 miles south of the big Northridge quake and that one wasn't amusing at all.

I've been through every big one since Sylmar.

My pal told me over instant messenger that this one just a moment ago felt like one enormous jolt rather than a swaying motion. That's not good. Reminds me of the two smaller quakes in the months before the big Landers quake let go.

I well remember the Sylmar and Northridge. My first quake that I remember vividly was the Tehachapi. I was 8 years old and horrified!

I was at home in the garage and heard a large, single thump. My wife, in her classroom ~2 miles away, reported two rumbles before the thump. No damage here at home.

Thanks for the ping, Ernest. It was a sudden hard jolt here for it being a 4.4 earthquake. It was a shallow quake and according to local ABC News was felt throughout the Los Angeles area.

Earthquake Ping List. If you wish to be removed from the Earthquake Ping List or added to it, please FReepmail me. There are also some people whom I have individually pinged. If I pinged you by mistake, my apologies.

That's interesting KG9Kid. This quake also reminded me of the period of time preceding both the Landers and the Northridge quakes.

You're welcome, Ernest. That's true. It won't mean anything unless sometime later there is a larger quake, and then today's 4.4 mag quake might be viewed as a fore shock.

Then again, fore-shocks and after-shocks are separate and individual earthquakes no matter their proximity in time and location to major earthquakes according to seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones.

What interests me is that even with a 4.4 it would seem that we would have a few minor shocks afterwards in the 2.0 range...there has been a erie quiet in that area since the 4.4!

I didn't want to freak anyone out. Just recalling that the Northridge quake was an upshift quake preceded twice by other upshift-type quakes about a month or so before.

Upshift quakes can 'feel' stronger, I think. I'm no seismologist though.
