A huge mistake by the elder Bush. Souter is the result when politics trumps competence
IMO, the worst mistake by Bush. The man had no track record and Bush wanted an "easy" confirmation. Souter in his first term was good but then turned far left. Even if he was a liberal to begin with, its surprising he would go so far to the left. During his confirmation, it was the NOW gang, NARAL, ACLU and other leftist groups who were against his nomination. He did not pass unanimously due to liberal senators voting no. I remember Rush Limbaugh going to great lengths defending the man.
The Elder Bush was when all is said and done a loser. He raises taxes... doesn’t finish what he started in Mid East and appoints this jerk....
Sort of like... Arlen Spector?
