This is huge. It’s not surprising, as Souter has shown signs of burnout for years. But for conservatives, it couldn’t come at a worse time, as Republicans only have 40 in the Senate.

Look for the ‘Rats to start pushing to get Al Franken seated.

Souter was obviously waiting for a dem president.

I wouldn’t count on the dems needing 60. Remember Ginsburg’s confirmation?

"Seated" might be an improvement.

Why bother?

How many Republicans voted against Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the most radical leftist, feminist, and obvious communist ever even considered for the Court?

Three.

Even if there were 65 Republicans in the Senate, Obama would have no trouble getting whomever he wanted confirmed.

But with 41-45, Obama can count on 20-25 defectors, so Franken is irrelevant.

This is big, yes, but it’s still a liberal replacing a liberal.

Huge? A lot of “conservatives” might think that Souter’s replacement can't be much worse than he is. It would be more of a blow if one of the “conservative” SCOTUS justices left.
